Eric Church recently took to Twitter to announce that he would perform a show in at the Whitewater Amphitheater in New Braunfels in San Antonio on September 2, offering fans a “one of a kind free show.”
Church, who was scheduled to perform at the AT&T Center in San Antonio on Saturday (April 2) as part of his “The Gather Again Tour” but canceled the show to attend a basketball playoff game with his family, has announced the San Antonio concert to make up for the canceled concert.
“Thank you San Antonio for letting me take my family to this game,” Church wrote on Twitter. “It took me a minute to figure out how and when I could properly express my thanks.”
“As a lifelong Carolina basketball fan, I’ve watched Carolina and Duke battle over the years,” Church had said in a message to his fan club, the Church Choir, on March 30. “But to have them matchup in the Final Four for the first time in the history of the NCAA Tournament is any sports enthusiast’s dream.”
“This is also the most selfish thing I’ve ever asked the Choir [his fanbase] to do: to give up your Saturday night plans with us so that I can have this moment with my family and sports community,” he added. “However, it’s that same type of passion felt by the people who fill the seats at our concerts that makes us want to be part of a crowd at a game of this significance. [Former Tar Heels announcer] Woody Durham always said, ‘Go where you go and do what you do,’ thanks for letting me go here and be with the Tar Heels.”
