EXCLUSIVE SATC’s Sarah Jessica Parker FINALLY breaks her silence on Kim Cattrall’s shock And Just Like That… cameo but refuses to acknowledge THAT feud
The feud between Sex And The City co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall became almost as famous as the iconic opening credits tutu, the passion for Cosmopolitan cocktails and the endless weekend brunches.
However, with Cattrall returning for a cameo in the second series of the show’s sequel And Just Like That, it seems that her co-star Parker is finally looking for peace.
Parker, 58, has finally broken her silence on the return of her old enemy, branding the return of Cattrall, 66 ‘really fun and exciting and certainly nostalgic’ and adding: ‘It’s been a lot of joy.’
The two women are seen talking to each other on the telephone in the forthcoming series, which premieres this Thursday. Sources indicate that they didn’t have to share studio space or even speak in order to film the scene.
Co-star Evan Handler, who plays Harry Goldenblatt, said that Cattrall filmed her part ‘in a garage’ back in March and didn’t interact with any of them.

However, Cattrall agreeing to appear seems to indicate some thawing of relations and has already been greeted with delight by the many fans of the show.
Viewers previously complained that the absence of maneater PR Samantha Jones changed the tone of the show.
Parker said: ‘We’ve been really thoughtful about the ways in which we’ve, you know, approached characters that hadn’t been around, the ways we have invited actors back and it’s been, you know, really fun and exciting and certainly nostalgic, but I think more than that, it’s been a lot of joy.’
But Kristen Davis, who plays fellow show lead Charlotte Goldenblatt, reflects that the four key cast members were always divided – and that Cattrall’s cameo doesn’t mean that there is ‘closure’ or ‘resolution’ to the feud.
She said: ‘I think that sometimes you really do have friends in life who are very different from you. And I think that’s great. Right?…
‘And I think that’s what was was great about the four of us, because obviously, Charlotte had a really different perspective than Samantha, and Carrie and Miranda at times…
‘All of us represented different points of view at different times, and sometimes argued, you know, and sometimes didn’t just like friends do…
‘I don’t know that there’s a closure or resolution necessarily, those are like, kind of big things that I don’t know that we were going for…

December 2009: Kim and Cynthia Nixon attend SJP’s premier for Did You Hear About The Morgans? in a show of support and SJP tells Elle that she wouldn’t have done the SATC film without Kim
January 2010: In an interview with the Mail, Kim expressed her exasperation over the never-ending feud rumours saying ‘People don’t want to believe that we get on’
May 2010: Kim admits that ‘sometimes feelings get hurt’ during grueling filming hours due to the amount of time the women spent together
August 2016: SJP wishes Kim a happy 60th birthday and addresses her as her ‘old friend’
October 2016: Kim once again defends feud rumours but admits not every day working together is easy or perfect
September 2017: SJP confirmed a third SATC movie… and then announced it was happening
Willie Garson, who played Carrie’s BFF Stan tweeted, ‘Disappointed for all crew holding on for negotiations to conclude for their jobs, and of course, for the fans. Leave it at that. #Truth.’
October 2017: Kim Tells Piers Morgan that SJP ‘could have been nicer’ about the SATC 3 demise
February 2018: Kim blasts ‘cruel’ SJP and says she is not a friend nor family to her
‘We just thought that, you know, it would be fun for the fans to have a little bit of Samantha because we know that they miss her and she’s a great character.’
Kristen continued: ‘I don’t know that we’re even trying for closure at this point, or resolution. I think we just thought you know, here is, you know, our character who’s been gone. And we know people miss her and Carrie misses her…
‘And wouldn’t this be great to have a little bit of her, you know, that’s what we wanted. And then I think maybe hopes have been lifted, possibly higher than that. And that was not our intention. So I hope people aren’t disappointed.’
In an interview with Vanity Fair magazine, published last week, actress Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda Hobbes said that the atmosphere on set had been very awkward when Cattrall was in the cast.
She said: ‘It makes an enormous difference that you’re not walking around on eggshells with someone who’s unhappy for reasons that are hard to even understand what they are.’
Parker and Cattrall were never friends and reports suggest that a three to one split quickly arose between the four main female characters which left Cattrall feeling isolated.
The arrival of Parker’s friend Michael Patrick King as producer, and Parker’s elevation to executive producer status, with increased money, is also thought to have been an issue.
In 2004, when the series ended, it was notable that Cattrall sat apart from the others at the Emmy Awards. She said: ‘Are we the best of friends? No. We’re professional actresses. We have our own separate lives.’
By the time of the first SATC film in 2009, Parker and Cattrall were said to no longer be on speaking terms, although both denied reports of friction.
Then came tensions over a desire to a third film, which Cattrall wasn’t interested in doing.
Cattrall told Piers Morgan on Life Stories: ‘I really think she could have been nicer.’
After Cattrall’s brother died in 2018, Parker shared condolences via Instagram.
Cattrall hit back: ‘continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now. Let me make this VERY clear. (If I haven’t already). You are not my family. You are not my friend.’
Chris Noth, who played Parker’s screen husband in And Just Like That, said in 2021: ‘I just wish that the whole thing had never happened because it was sad and uncomfortable…
‘I just don’t like to see anyone talking down about SJ because she’s a target and people can be nasty. I feel very protective of her and I was not happy about that.
It’s back! And Just Like That… is returning for a second season later this week
