Gardeners’ World star Monty Don, 66, has claimed he has not been invited for his Covid booster vaccine yet despite being eligible “for a month”.

As of today, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation announced Covid booster jabs should be offered to all adults over the age of 18 from three months after their second Covid vaccination.

The gap between the second and booster doses of Covid vaccines has been shortened from six months in an attempt to limit the spread of the Omicron variant.

Taking to Twitter today, Monty Don told his 243,000 followers: “The government is urging us all to get boosters – and I would love to.

“But, although I have been eligible for a month, I have had no contact at all and there is no booster programme in the whole of the county of Herefordshire.”

According to the official NHS website for Herefordshire and Worcestershire, eligible people from those counties can book their booster vaccine via the National Booking System.

The NHS guidance says there are vaccine centres at Elgar House in Herefordshire, as well as Artrix, Saint Peter’s and Three Counties in Worcestershire.

However, Monty is not the first to complain about the vaccine rollout in the county.

Hereford local, Jennifer Baker, told the Telegraph that despite living six miles away from the vaccine centre, she had been directed to a site 35.6 miles away so she could receive her jab.

Another example is Diane Treherne, who told the Hereford Times she rang the NHS’s 119 number five times to book her booster.

Each time she claims she was offered a vaccination miles away in Gloucester, Swansea or Cinderford.

Gerald Hodson also told the publication that when he tried to book online via the NHS portal, the only vaccination site in Herefordshire had no availability and he ended up getting his jab 23 miles away in Shropshire.

It was announced today that the Covid booster rollout would be amped up after the new Omicron variant was detected in the UK.

There are fears Omicron is less susceptible to vaccines than the other variants seen so far, and a third injection will be needed to increase protection.

Nine cases of the strain, which was first detected in South Africa, have been found in the UK so far.

Professor Van-Tam said the Omicron variant, which he described as the “new kid on the block”, was concerning.

He told a Downing Street press conference that the number of mutations present in the Omicron variant “makes us worry about a possible effect on vaccine effectiveness”.

As well as the change in booster rollout, on Saturday, Boris Johnson announced fresh Covid restrictions, including the reintroduction of face masks in shops and public transport.

The Prime Minister said that he was “confident” that this year’s Christmas will be “considerably better than last”.

Express.co.uk has contacted NHS Herefordshire and Jesse Norman, MP for Hereford and South Herefordshire, for comment.
