Helen Skelton announced her split from her husband, rugby player Richie Myler, who is now expecting another child with his new partner. Gemma Atkinson, who is engaged to Gorka Marquez, took to social media and reacted to his performance with the Countryfile presenter.
Taking to the dancefloor on Saturday night, the mum-of-three joined Gorka Marquez to perform an impressive Paso Doble.
The professional dancer paid a heartfelt tribute to Helen following their performance, encouraging her to believe in herself and branding her an “amazing mum”.
The Spanish performer was praised on social media for his positive words, with his partner Gemma Atkinson, taking to Twitter and Instagram to share her thoughts.
Addressing her 281,000 followers, she shared an image of several people clapping, as she penned: “When your man stands up and says what everyone’s thinking… [clap hands emoji].”
Taking to Instagram stories, shared a clip of Gorka gushing about the Countryfile presenter, adding a gif of hands clapping and the words: “Absolutely!!!! What he said!!!”
Following the dancing duo’s routine, Gorka began: “Can I just say something? I know you have been having a difficult time and I know you’ve been made to feel like you’re not beautiful, or good enough, or anything but if you don’t believe in yourself, I believe in you.
“Everybody here believes in you. Your family.
“It doesn’t matter how many times I say or the judges say it or anybody says it, it’s only you [who] is the one that’s going to make the change and the one who needs to believe in you because you are an amazing woman, very inspirational, an amazing mum and incredible dancer. So believe in you, please.”
Strictly fans took to social media and praised Gorka for his kind words to Helen at the weekend.
Jan wrote: “Please thank Gorka for saying that for Helen.”
Audrey Jean echoed: “Gorka was brilliant and supportive. To those who say he shouldn’t have said anything have you been with her all week. No. He has and has seen first hand what we haven’t. Yes, she is strong but to be told what she has he did totally the right thing.”
