Gemma Collins still breaks down in tears thinking about her dad Alan’s strenuous battle with Covid-19 during the holiday season last year.
The 40-year-old admitted she sometimes gets emotional in public remembering what her dad went through and how much the worrying experience affected her when she realised she might lose him.
Gemma’s parents both suffered with Covid-19 over the Christmas period in 2020, however it was her dad who was sent to hospital after becoming seriously ill with the virus.
Now fortunately, he has regained a healthier state and “gets stronger every day” according to Gemma, who has him following certain instructions.
“I only let him work 3 days a week now," she told The Sun.
"Long Covid is not a five-minute thing. It is a journey. I was so traumatised by it. I keep having flashbacks now.
"I will be in the middle of the street or the shop and suddenly I will start crying and mum will be like, 'Are you alright?'”
The reality star continued on to describe her shock at what happened with her dad last year and how she will approach being with him this Christmas time.
"I just can’t believe what happened this time last year,” she said.
“I am going to be stuck to my dad like glue. He is going to want to run away from me."
This year, Gemma will be hiring caterers to help her out with making Christmas dinner for her parents, teaching her not to “burn the turkey or sprouts” as she treats them to a special feast on the big day.
This comes twelve months after believing she was at risk of her dad dying, which she discussed more about on The Gemma Collins podcast last year.
“It has been just the most awful Christmas and New Year for me. I am not going to dwell on it,” she said.
"Both of my parents have had Covid. My dad is still in hospital now. He's literally been fighting for his life. Things are so difficult.
“It is relentless at the moment with everything going on," she added. "I am finding myself juggling so many plates at the minute.
"It's been a real shock to myself and my family with my dad being in hospital."
Thankfully, Gemma’s dad has since made a progressive recovery causing for much to celebrate for the Collins family this Christmas.
