George R.R. Martin revealed that the fate of several Game of Thrones are up in the air after the series prequel series, House of the Dragon, broke viewing records on HBO.
Days ahead of the new year, the prolific author of the acclaimed A Song of Ice and Fire fantasy series provided an update to fans about his upcoming projects with the network.
After taking ‘a few days off for the holidays,’ the TV producer, 74, teased that he was back ‘in the salt mine, working… working on so many bloody things’ that his ‘head may soon explode.’

‘A couple have been shelved,’ he confirmed on his blog. ‘But, I would not agree that they are dead. You can take something off the shelf as easily as you can put it on the shelf.’
Martin continued: ‘Some of those are moving faster than others, as is always the case with development.’
While ‘none have been greenlit yet,’ the screenwriter, also known as GRRM, said he was ‘hoping’ they would be ‘maybe soon.’

Martin also made it clear that the second season of House of the Dragon was on its way and his new series Wild Cards is still in development at Peacock.
In October, he revealed he was ‘three quarters of the way done’ with his sixth Game of Thrones book The Winds of Winter during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
The estimated publication date of the novel is November 2023.

Earlier this year, House of the Dragon made history in its debut after garnering9.99 million viewers – the largest ever in the network’s history.
The ratings for the debut marked the biggest numbers ranging back before the streaming era, and shows that later debuted on HBO Max.
The series, which is a prequel to the smash hit Game of Thrones, more than doubled the 2011 debut of its predecessor, which had 4.2 million viewers at the time. The show garnered a record 17.9 million for the debut of its final season in 2019.
