Jeremy Vine, 56, fronts his daytime show on Channel 5 after taking over from former host Matthew Wright three years ago. The BBC Radio 2 presenter has now addressed the show’s rows as panellists and viewers alike get heated about topical issues.
The presenter spoke of the major headlines that have affected the public in recent months.
From the impact of Brexit on the UK to the ongoing issues surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.
The Channel 5 host admitted he is often left stunned by the furious debates during the programme.
Jeremy explained: “There have been some amazing rows.
“The programme seems to suddenly go along in a sedate way and then there’ll be this massive argument over Brexit or Covid or whatever.
“It’s like having a cold shower in the morning. You know your awake when the water hits you.”
The broadcaster admitted that the Channel 5 show is made by the viewers and they too can get “cross” with the panellists.
“Of course it’s made by the callers,” he commented.
“And that’s what it has got in common with BBC Radio 2. It’s the people ringing in with their views on this, that and the other and sometimes getting very cross with the panel.”
Jeremy went on: “And then the panel responding.
“There’s no other show that really does that. That puts you through to the experts – the famous panellists.”
He added: “You can have your say. You can shout at them if you want.”

The on-air journalist also addressed a mishap he suffered while presenting the show.
It occurred after one of the show’s guests brought a gerbil into the studios and the TV host asked to stroke it.
“One of the very first days in the very first week they had this gerbil in,” he explained.
Jeremy went on: “It turned out [the gerbil] had somehow eaten half the car from basically the footwells outward. It was incredible.

“Of course, I said, ‘Can I have a stroke?’ And I knew as soon as I said it something would happen.”
He added: “And sure enough it attacked me and bit my finger on air. I thought we are obviously setting the tone here of what is about to happen.”
Jeremy Vine airs weekdays on Channel 5 at 9.15am.
