Gogglebox stars Julie and Tom Malone filmed themselves in their garden today in front of a portaloo, which has been added so that the crew don’t go into their home to use their toilet during filming. The new series returns to screens next weekend. The couple took to their Twitter page to discuss the new addition and confirm the new series date.

“Yay at last it’s arrived,” Julie told fans excitedly.

“Bit of a s*****r really, look at it,” Tom added joking, as he turned his nose up.

Julie then panned the camera around to show fans as she repeated the word “portaloo”.

“It means we’re getting ready,” she added as her husband confirmed it was for “Covid safety” reasons.

“Some Friday soon… see you in our living room and you’ll see us in ours,” he added.

Julie captioned the post: “It’s arrived!!! That means we are getting ready to start back soon!! See you on the 26th.”

While many of the family’s 135,000 followers realised what it was for, some were left confused by the addition.

“Sorry to be thick by why do u have to have portaloo?”(sic) a fan asked.

A second commented: “Can’t wait!! Got to say I’m confused about the loo though?”

A third added: “Why do u need a portaloo??”

The couple’s son Tom Malone recently revealed the crew had been linking cameras to their living room from vans outside the home to avoid any contact with the cast, in line with coronavirus restrictions.

Last year Channel 4 released a statement after the show received 163 Ofcom complaints with many viewers questioning whether some of the cast had mixed households to film.

They said at the time: “Most of the families live together but where they don’t, they are complying with PHE [Public Health England] social distancing guidelines.

“Gogglebox will only film with families where it’s safe to do so. The health and safety of our cast and crew is paramount.”

The Malones joined the show back in 2014 and have been fan favourites ever since.

The family comprise of Julie, dad Tom Senior, Tom and little brother Shaun and they are sometimes seen with their four dogs – Dave, Lucy, Izzy and Joe.

Tom regularly spills secrets about the show with his fans on TikTok.

The reality star recently revealed that the cast are treated to a takeaway during filming.

He spilled: “Without a doubt one of the best perks of Gogglebox is the fact that every time we film, which is twice a week, the crew get us a takeaway of our choosing.

“It’s literally one of the most amazing things about the show. It’s the best.

“The hardest thing is choosing what we’re actually going to have to eat, because my dad is super picky with food – anything too far away from a pie and chips or sausage and mash isn’t really his thing so, that’s the hardest thing about it.”
