The new movie is described as a “hilariously irreverent examination of racial politics, sexual mores and pop culture.”
Based on the graphic novel by Adrian Tomine, who also wrote the script, it follows “a cynical movie theater manager Ben (Min) and his irrepressible best friend Alice (Cola). Together, the Bay Area urbanites navigate Ben’s disintegrating relationship with his girlfriend Miko (Maki), Alice’s serial-dating habits and other obstacles in the way of their personal growth.”
Fun fact: Sherry‘s character’s name on Good Trouble is also Alice!
Also cast in the film include Gossip Girl‘s Tavi Gevinson, Debby Ryan, Jacob Batalon, Timothy Simons and Sonoya Mizuno.
“It was a joy watching these incredibly talented performers bring these characters to life, flaws and all,” Randall said in a statement. “I am extremely proud to helm a movie that will finally show the world that the Asian American experience includes eating various sandwiches in diners.”
