The ‘As It Was’ hitmaker faces intense backlash on social media after saying ‘people like’ him don’t win Grammys when accepting the award for Album of the Year.
AceShowbiz –Harry Styles is seemingly trying to ignore the buzz on the Internet. The “As It Was” hitmaker looks tense in first sighting amid heavy backlash online over his “tone-deaf” Grammys acceptance speech.
The English chart-topping musician was photographed heading to a workout session in Los Angeles on Tuesday, February 7. He sported a white hooded sweatshirt with an “H” monogrammed on the chest which he paired with light blue Nike shorts and white Adidas sneakers.
Harry also wore a hair clip to contain his shaggy brown locks and donned black sunglasses as he tried to ward off the sun. In some of the pictures, “Watermelon Sugar” could be seen showing serious facial expressions while he’s on the phone.
The outing came after Harry landed in hot water over his acceptance speech at the 2023 Grammy Awards on Sunday, February 5. While accepting the award for Album of the Year at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, the 29-year-old said, “I think on nights like tonight it’s important for us to remember there is no such thing as ‘best’ in music.”
“I don’t think any of us sit in the studio making decisions on what is going to get us one of these,” Harry added. “I’m just so – This doesn’t happen to people like me very often and this is so, so nice,” he continued. The last statement, unfortunately, sparked critics’ outrage.
” ‘This doesn’t happen to people like me often’ – @Harry_Styles. We beg to differ, Harry,” one Twitter user argued, “Mediocre white men get glamourized, rewarded and awarded over exceptionally talented, amazing Black women like @Beyonce all day, every day. Case in point is this AOTY win. #GRAMMYs.”
Someone else tweeted, “Harry styles said ‘this doesn’t happen to people like me very often’ and I gotta be honest I can’t think of a type of people this happens for more.” A third, meanwhile, remarked, “Harry Styles needs to send [Kendrick Lamar] and [Beyonce Knowles] a 9,000 word apology text and get it tattooed all over his body.”
“harry styles saying ‘this doesn’t happen to people like me very often’ while being a rich cis white man AFTER Kim Petras‘ speech about being the first trans person to win a grammy is so tone-deaf omg,” a different user remarked.
Harry won the coveted price for “Harry’s House”. He beated out Beyonce (“Renaissance”), Bad Bunny (“Un Verano Sin Ti”), Mary J. Blige (“Good Morning Gorgeous”), Lizzo (“Special”), Kendrick (“Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers”), Coldplay (“Music of the Spheres”), Brandi Carlile (“In These Silent Days”), Adele (“30”) and ABBA (“Voyage”).
