Harry Styles stops concert to lead round of applause in tribute to Queen after her death

Harry Styles honoured the Queen by starting a round of applause in his concert following the news of Her Majesty's death on Thursday.

The singer and actor, 28, stopped his show at his Madison Square Garden in New York City to inform his crowd about the "very sad news" that had come from the UK.

He then requested that the audience of around 20,000 people clapped for the Queen to mark her incredible 70 years of service as Britain's longest-serving monarch.

As he stood on stage in the Big Apple, Harry announced: "From my homeland, there was some very sad news today: the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

"Please join me in a round of applause for 70 years of service."

He continued to clap his hands above his head as he encouraged the thousands of fans to join him in his tribute of the late monarch.

When the applause was finished, Harry said: "Thank you, Madison Square Garden.

The tribute came as Britain began its period of mourning of its beloved Monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. After an astounding 70 years on the throne, the country's long standing royal leader died yesterday, "peacefully", aged 96, at Balmoral in Scotland.

Yesterday Buckingham Palace announced the news and said: "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.

The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow."

The news of Her Majesty's death has sparked a reaction across the country and from celebrities a like.

Mick Jagger, lead singer of the Rolling Stones tweeted: "For my whole life Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II has always been there. In my childhood I can recall watching her wedding highlights on TV. I remember her as a beautiful young lady, to the much beloved grandmother of the nation. My deepest sympathies are with the Royal family"

Elton John also wrote a heart warming message in honour of Queen Elizabeth II: "Along with the rest of the nation, I am deeply saddened to hear the news of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth's passing. She was an inspiring presence to be around and led the country through some of our greatest and darkest moments with grace, decency and a genuine caring warmth".

The singer continued: "Queen Elizabeth has been a huge part of my life from childhood to this day, I will miss he dearly."
