Helen Flanagan hits out as I’m A Celebrity fans accuse her of ‘faking’ her fears

Helen Flanagan hit back at I’m a Celeb fans who have accused her of “faking” her fears and being “dramatic” during her first trial on the new series.

The former Coronation Street star, 32, defended her famously frightened persona as she watched the trail alongside her eldest daughter and confirmed she was “absolutely scared”.

Talking on Instagram, Helen said: “Mummy was so scared. I did it because I didn't want you to say, 'Oh mummy didn't do it”.

“But honestly darling I was absolutely scared – I didn't faint but I did it because I knew Matilda would want to watch me do this. I did it but I really didn't want to.”

The clip was captioned: “I absolutely hate heights”.

During Helen’s first challenge, along with Fatima Whitbread and Phil Tufnell, the celebrities were strapped up to harnesses as they jumped from one red ball to another that was suspended high in the air in a bid to bag themselves a star.

During the episode, Helen revealed that she “felt sick" as she watched her campmate Fatima jump across the giant red balls.

Helen struggled with the challenge and took her time whilst reassuring herself that she can do it. Although she didn’t catch the star, Helen conquered her fears on the show and cracked on with the challenge ahead, although some viewers hit out at the star and accused her of being “dramatic”.

One fan tweeted: “Helen hasn't changed at all then”, referring to her first appearance on the hit show back in 2012 where she famously struggled to bring back stars for camp.

Another wrote: “Episode 1 and Helen is already getting on my nerves”, while another said: “Ugh this series is just going to be Helen sh***ing herself and not doing the tasks”.

“She knew exactly what she was signing up for so what's with all the dramatics,” added another.

Helen was also accused of feeling sick at the “most perfect time” and “milking” her screen time.

Some viewers however commented on the difficulty of the challenge as none of the trio were able to grab the star as they jumped from the final red ball.

One person said: “This one is so much harder than the rest of the other ones #ImACeleb.”, while another said: “Sorry but that trial was so much harder than the other two without doubt, the star was even too far away to catch! #ImACeleb”.
