Helen Flanagan reveals her three young children are ill with scarlet fever

Coronation Street actress Helen Flanagan, 32, has revealed that her three children are all unwell with scarlet fever.

It comes as cases of the infection are said to be high in the north west of England where Helen lives.

Taking to Instagram to explain, Helen posted a picture of her daughter Delilah sleeping as she said: “All the kids have scarlet fever. Glad to know what it is after Delilah not been herself and the medicine to treat it x.”

Helen’s three children, Matilda, six, Delilah, three, and son Charlie, 13 months, have all come down with the contagious infection that mostly affects children. Parents in the North West have been warned by health officials to look out for the signs and symptoms.

According to the NHS, the main symptoms of scarlet fever include flu-like symptoms including a temperature, sore throat and swollen neck glands.

A rash then appears around 12 – 48 hours later. The rash looks like small raised bumps which start on the tummy and chest and spread across the body making the skin feel rough and sand-paper like. Children often get very red cheeks.

Scarlet fever is treated with antibiotics and usually only lasts for around one week. The infection is spread through close contact with people carrying the bug or though indirect contact with surfaces that have been contaminated. Getting treatment quickly helps avoid further complications. Anyone worried about scarlet fever should check with their GP or NHS 111.

A few days previously Helen had attended Ladies Day at Aintree race course in Liverpool with her mum, Julia.

The actress wore a burgundy wrap dress from Never Fully Dressed, teamed with a nude pink fascinator, a Dior pink suede handbag and gold strappy sandals. She co-ordinated with a pale pink manicure and nude make-up.

Helen's mum wore a bright blue patterned wrap dress, a blue fascinator and silver heeled sandals and carried a white beaded clutch bag.

Recently Helen, who is engaged to footballer Scott Sinclair, expressed her concern about her son Charlie not wanting to eat after she stopped breastfeeding.

She wrote: "Charlie will just not eat I'm going to take him to a specialist this week.

"He eats nothing and I'm still feeding him like he's six months.

"I've tried not feeding him with milk so he'll eat more but he just has no interest in food and he just wants the boob."

The family recently enjoyed a holiday to Dubai and stayed at the luxurious five-star hotel Le Royal Meridien Beach Resort & Spa. They celebrated Scott's 33rd birthday and baby son Charlie turning one while away on holiday.
