Helen Skelton responds after co-star Gethin Jones mocks her Morning Live outfit

Helen Skelton presents BBC’s Morning live in stripy green outfit

Helen Skelton has been mocked by her Morning Live co-host Gethin Jones after donning an eye-catching outfit that was compared to everything from pyjamas to Manchester United’s kit – and now she has published her response.

The 40-year-old quipped: “You can always count on your colleagues!” as she jokingly called her co-star out on Instagram.

Helen was extra-colourful in a green and white striped trouser and shirt set, but both Gethin and some of the show’s viewers had raised their eyebrows when they caught sight of her.

“@gethincjones wondered why I was wearing the new Man Utd strip at work today,” she wrote, playfully poking fun at herself before adding that their fellow Morning Live star Matt Allwright “approved” of her look.

The TV star and dancing sensation also tagged Morning Live fitness presenter and Strictly Come Dancing choreographer Maria Tsiatsiani, and award-winning presenter Dr Ranj Singh, adding cheekily: “Couldn’t care less.”

She shared a snap demonstrating the supposed similarity between her outfit and the latest Man U strip worn by Marcus Rashford, which also features a green and white striped pattern.

However, it hadn’t just been footie-related comparisons she’d had.

One Twitter follower had taken to the app to joke: “@BBCMorningLive Product placement on @BBCMorningLive this morning?

“@HelenSkelton’s green and white striped pyjamas are exactly like the new livery of @Condor airlines’ aircraft!”

Meanwhile, on her Instagram snap, some of Helen’s 482,000 followers had their own say, with @rotherysue using the tears of laughter emoji to chuckle: “Thought you’d gone to work in your PJs!”

@madmurdoch48 made reference to a vintage kids’ cartoon character, joking of the stripes-clad marionette: “I thought you were dressing up as Andy Pandy!”

However, @karen.stacey.14 took the two-piece outfit more seriously, reassuring her: “You looked lovely, and you’re the best female presenter. Very natural.”

Other followers asked where the unusual outfit, made by the clothing company Boden and styled for Helen by Anna Belkerman, was from as they hoped to pick up one of their own.

@cameroncross2003 hit back at her co-host on her behalf, exclaiming: “Helen you would look good in a bin bag lol. Geth what does he know about fashion lol.”(sic)

That said, Helen opted to arrive at Morning Live today in a much more toned-down navy blue jumpsuit.

The plunging top section attracted a lot of attention, as did the bright fuchsia pink heels she paired with the look, as she sat with co-star Gordon Smart.

Meanwhile, the busy mum of three found time to channel a vintage Hollywood look with her wavy blonde hair, looking sensational just a week after she saw in her 40th birthday.
