Here's *Exactly* How to Do TikTok's Very New (and Very Sexy) Silhouette Challenge

Alert, alert! There’s a new challenge out there that’s currently taking over your TikTok/Twitter/Instagram feed, just weeks after Erica Banks’ “Buss It” Challenge” went viral (and earned her the first Billboard Hot 100 hit of her career). Believe it or not, this new one is even sexier, and it’s called the Silhouette Challenge. Thanks to Miss Chloe Bailey of Chloe x Halle, people everywhere are breaking their necks (backs, and other body parts probably) to try it.

But first, let’s talk about Chloe’s video: In her rendition of the challenge, she put on a steamy song, and turned all of her lights down except for blue and purple lamps. Then, she danced, like so:

Perhaps the biggest requirement for how to do TikTok’s Silhouette Challenge—and having it look just as amazing as Chloe’s—is getting the blackout lighting just right. Thankfully, I’ve figured that out so you don’t need to spiral into an Amazon shopping spree for new lamps. Put the credit card down and read on, my friend.

How can I nail the TikTok Silhouette Challenge?

While you absolutely can invest your hard-earned savings into buying mood lighting for this challenge, there is a much easier and cheaper way! TikTok user @nurseswilling explained to her followers that there’s a filter on Snapchat titled “Vin Rouge” that will actually give the effect of red lighting in pictures and video.

Once the filter is applied, be sure to prop up your phone so it’s facing the direction of the nearest open doorway. Camera in position? Good—from there, all you gotta do is make sure that all the lights in your room are turned off except for a light source coming from outside the doorway. This creates the silhouette effect, which you can then use to do whatever the heck you want!
