Holly Willoughby, 41, and her co-stars Phillip Schofield, 60, Alison Hammond, 47, and Dermot O’Leary, 49, were overjoyed as This Morning picked up the National Television Award for Best Daytime Programme once again.

As the stars took to the stage, Holly and Phil took their place by the microphone and gave an emotional acceptance speech, thanking the viewers for their votes.

Phil said as he clutched the silver statue: “Please don’t think that we ever get complacent, please don’t think we ever take this for granted.

“This means so much to us, every year, especially this year.”

The award came as a surprise to some viewers after Phillip and Holly were at the centre of the “queue-gate” controversy last month.

The pair sparked backlash after they were accused of skipping the queue to see the Queen lying-in-state; which they both denied, explaining that they were there solely for work purposes.

Despite the controversy dominating headlines for the last month, Joel decided to steer clear of any mention of queue-gate in his jokes throughout the night.

Following the ceremony, Holly took to Instagram to praise Joel’s performance and thanked the This Morning team and the viewers who had voted for them.

Alongside a smiley photograph of herself and Phillip, Holly penned: “Thank you… holy moly… we love you… @thismorning … you are the best team, you work so hard to make the show what it is.

“We want to thank each and every one of you for voting… you have made this night an absolute dream.

“Thank you also @officialntas for having us… @joeldommett you are a class act.” (sic)

Many of Holly’s friends and fans took to the comments to congratulate her on the win.

In The Style owner, Adam Frisby, said: “Ahhh so well-deserved guys! And just goes to show all the rubbish press doesn’t reflect what everyone thinks.”

A viewer named Emma added: “Congratulations to everyone at This Morning ignore the haters the whole show is fantastic.”

And Stephanie echoed: “THE BEST. You say you don’t take us for granted, and we don’t take you for granted either. Sometimes a familiar face on screen is all you need to make the days a bit easier.” (sic)

However, some other users were less than impressed and argued that This Morning “should not have won”.

Charlotte raged: “The voting was opened before the whole incident. They are a disgrace and should never have won the award.”

While Ste remarked: “You should have handed it back and let a more deserving programme have it.”

And Scott quipped: ”Did you join the line this time?”

As well as Holly and Phil’s on-air explanation stating that they did not skip the queue, This Morning also issued a statement to clarify what happened.

It read: “We asked Phillip and Holly to be part of a film for this Tuesday’s programme.

“They did not jump the queue, have VIP access or file past the Queen lying-in-state – but instead were there in a professional capacity as part of the world’s media to report on the event.”
