Kirsty Gallacher, 45, is one of the new faces of GB News when the channel launched earlier this month. But the former Sky Sports presenter found herself in the midst of a row with a viewer who claimed she had condoned people not being allowed freedom if they haven’t had the coronavirus vaccine.

After the viewer shared their disgust on Twitter, Kirsty hit back, defending herself against the allegation.

Following the official account for GB News shared a clip of the host and Darren McCaffrey discussing travel rules for Brits who have received their jabs, one took offence to something that was said.

“Utterly disgraceful & abhorrent views from @DarrenGBNews & @TheRealKirstyG on @GBNEWS,” they penned.

“We’re perfectly happy for some people to be denied their unalienable civil rights & allow the creation of an apartheid state because I had the vaccine so I could go on f****** holiday.”

Kirsty, who is appearing on James Martin’s Saturday Morning this weekend, was quick to dispute their remark, replying: “I absolutely did not say that.

“Please get your facts rights.”

She added an explanation: “We were merely documenting the government’s proposal. I actually have strong views to the contrary.”

In the clip that was shared by the news channel, Darren can be heard saying: “We know the vaccines work, we know this is our ticket back to pretty much normality.”

He noted that the 19 July should be the date lockdown is completely over, adding: “If that’s the compromise, and if you’re not willing to have the vaccine, maybe you shouldn’t have as many freedoms!”

Kirsty could be heard humming in agreement, as he continued: “Why should everybody hold us back?”

“Originally I was very against it, it’s very private,” she interjected.

“I was like, ‘Why should I be tracked in that way?’ But now I feel like it’s going to be the only way to travel, to get around, to get out there. For now anyway.”

Elsewhere, the newsreader also responded to claims of “poor” picture and production quality on the new channel.

Since their launch, GB News has been plagued with a few technical issues, which can only be expected from a brand new start-up.

But Kirsty leapt to the programme’s defence, promptly replying to a viewer of the show who had been left less than impressed, claiming the issues made it “almost unwatchable”.

It comes after fellow presenter Nana Akua, gave fans an insight into GB News’ production.

Tweeting to her 430,800 followers, she wrote: “Just finished presenting the Great British Breakfast @GBNEWS with the amazing @TheRealKirstyG.”

Despite the majority of comments being supportive, one viewer complained: “I desperately want to enjoy it… but the picture and production quality is so poor… it feels like I’m back in the 80’s…”

Hitting back, another advised them to “close their eyes” and listen to the presenters, writing: “Close your eyes and just listen then. The content is more important, and that’s great.”

Clearly pleased with the praise, Kirsty commented and promised that the technical problems will be sorted soon.

“Well said thank you! Those things will be ironed out ASAP,” she said.

James Martin’s Saturday Morning airs Saturdays at 9:25am on ITV.
