Saturday Kitchen host Matt Tebbutt, 47, has opened up about a “scary” moment on his weekend cooking show, in relation to a particular guest’s appearance on the programme. Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, the renowned chef revealed that he was terrified of comedian and presenter Jo Brand, 63, because of her notoriously quick wit and sharp tongue.

The BBC host, who has been fronting the show for the last five years, revealed that he had reservations about interacting with the The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice presenter.

When questioned about his most memorable moments on the cooking show, the former restaurant owner immediately bought up the flame-haired comedian.

“Jo Brand,” he admitted, “I was slightly scared that she was coming on, because you know how sharp she is and how quick.”

Matt revealed that he worried about putting his foot in his mouth and paying for it by being the victim of the star’s quick tongue.

He continued: “I thought, ‘Oh god, I’m going to say something stupid and shes going to destroy me’.”

However, the star went on to relay that he had nothing to worry about as Jo turned out to be a “delightful” guest.

He added: “But she was utterly delightful, what a lovely woman.”

Matt also explained what makes a great episode of Saturday Kitchen, revealing that the celebrity guests have a lot to do with it.

He said: “It makes for a great show when they enjoy getting involved.”

The chef went on to detail having an English singer-songwriter on the show, who he admitted turned out to be a huge fan.

Matt said: “The other week we had Morrissey on and he said, ‘I love being here.’

“He said, ‘I watch this every week, it’s part of my routine’.”

Commenting on his guests, Matt continued: “And they sit there and they want to drink the wine, they want to eat the food and it’s almost like a club.

“They know the people, they know the characters and they want to get involved and that’s the show at its best.”

Addressing his pre-show routines, the chef, who replaced presenter James Martin in 2016, revealed that he spends Friday night researching his guests and looking over recipes.

“On a Friday night I’m absolutely monk like, I’m in my hotel room, don’t go out, go to bed at 9pm on the dot,” he admitted.

“Because you don’t want to mess up and you want to do your work so you’re feeling good for the next day,” Matt explained.

Recently on the show Matt struggled to get a word in edgewise with celebrity guest and Spice Girl Emma Bunton.

After the singer went on a tangent about her breastfeeding journey, Matt was forced to interrupt her monologue and ask if she was “still talking”.

Saturday Kitchen airs Saturdays at 10am on BBC One.
