Idris Elba, 48, is said to be good pals with Prince Harry, 36, and Meghan Markle, 39. The actor, who starred in the hit BBC drama Luther, attended the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding alongside his wife Sabrina Dhowre in 2018.
Meghan and Harry made headlines following their explosive interview with US host Oprah, which sent shockwaves around the globe as they shared insights into their life working as royals.
The couple spoke candidly about mental health and made claims that a royal had made comments about the colour of their son Archie’s skin tone.
Idris has since offered his support to Meghan and Harry as he defended the couple’s decision to speak out on royal life.
Weighing in on their candid interview, the Wire star shared his thoughts on their tell-all.
Speaking to Entertainment Daily, Idris commented: “Everyone has to have their opportunity to speak up about what they feel.
“You can’t take someone’s voice away. That’s all we have to communicate.”
Idris, who is also known as DJ Big Driis The Londoner, previously revealed that he was asked to spin records at Harry and Meghan’s wedding reception which he initially believed was a joke.
“Harry came to a couple of parties that I DJed and he was like, ‘What are you doing on [May 19]?’ Idris explained.
“I told him nothing and then he asked if I would DJ at his wedding… I was like is this a joke?”
The actor was asked by Entertainment Tonight about the racism claims raised during Meghan and Harry’s interview with Oprah – and Buckingham Palace’s response.
In a rare statement issued by The Queen, she said that “recollections may vary” but the claims would be dealt with “privately”.
Idris is not alone in his support of Harry and Meghan as the latter’s former Suits co-star D.B. Woodside, who played Jeff Malone in the series, shared his criticism after the couple received some backlash.

Defending his acting pal, D.B Woodside told ET: “Listen, the thing about her is she’s strong and she’s resilient.
“And if they think that this kind of stuff is going to knock her off her game for very long, they picked the wrong woman to mess with.
“They need to back up, back off, apologise because she’s not the one.”
He added: “And all I have to say is that she’s one of the most incredible human beings that I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with.
“She’s incredibly smart and generous and kind and lovely and thoughtful. I mean, I can go on and on and on. So I wish her nothing but the best.”
Meanwhile, the Archbishop of Canterbury has since confirmed that Harry and Meghan had just one official wedding ceremony.
It comes after Meghan said the couple exchanged vows three days before their official wedding in May 2018.
Justin Welby said he would have been “committing a serious crime” if he had signed the marriage certificate on the actual day, knowing it was false.
But he met the couple “in a private and pastoral setting” beforehand, he said.
