Inside Cambridges naughty party where William wooed Kate in hot pants and police helmet

Prince William and Kate Middleton are the picture perfect royal couple, but they needed help to rekindle their romance.

In 2007 – just four years before they said “I do” in Westminster Abbey – the then-college sweethearts broke up, making the future King Britain’s most eligible bachelor.

But Kate showed William what he was missing and thanks to a close pal, jockey Sam Waley-Cohen, they reunited months later.

The Grand National winner invited both to a gathering at his family’s Oxfordshire residence weeks later and, that summer, Kate attended a themed party at William’s Army barracks.

At the hilariously-named ‘Freakin Naughty’, the Duchess-to-be was seemingly wooed by his outrageous costume – hot pants and a policeman’s helmet!

Kate meanwhile arrived dressed as a ‘naughty’ nurse in fishnet tights and a short dress.

Just weeks later, the newly reunited lovebirds boarded a plane to the Seychelles, and the rest is history.

In 2011, royal pal Sam explained of his involvement in the Cambridges’ relationship: “There’s an idea that I was like Cupid. People love the idea that somebody put them back together but they put themselves together far more.”

Still, in 2008 Kate gave her thanks to Sam by helping him organise an Eighties-themed charity roller disco – and she turned up, too!

Guests were wowed by skilled skater Kate, who donned a green sequin halter-neck and yellow hot pants.

Her future husband missed out, working away as a full-time search and rescue party – tough luck, William!

11 years on from their stunning royal nuptials, you’ll be hard pushed to spot the Cambridges’ in fancy dress.

In fact, Kate is a style guru who’s brought polka dots back to the high street this season.

It’s thought that Netflix is on the hunt for a stunning brunette to play the Duchess in season six of The Crown. But royal expert Grant Harrold tells OK! she won’t be worried about how she’s portrayed.

Grant, who’s the former butler to Prince Charles, tells us: “Kate doesn’t have much to worry about. Her PR and image is perfect. There is nothing not perfect about her.”

And after packing on the PDA during their royal tour of the Caribbean, her relationship with Prince William is stronger than ever.
