Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have had a turbulent year after the release of his memoir Spare and their documentary series on Netflix caused worldwide controversy.

In his memoir, Harry had made bombshell claims about life in the Royal Family and his brother William and dad King Charles, which allegedly left members of the firm furious.

The rest of the year has not been without scandal, with the couple facing scrutiny after Harry attended his dad's Coronation alone.

They also dealt with the news that their deal with Spotify was up so their podcast Archetypes would be finishing. It's unclear what is next for them as they have kept low profiles for the last few months.

Now, as they stay out of the spotlight, they have also been plagued by split rumours as they prepare to embark on separate career paths.

But, the speculation has been rubbished by a friend of Harry and Meghan, who told Page Six: "It's not true, it's literally made up."

Here, we take a closer look at the situation and the false reasons it has been alleged their romance is in trouble…

Solo career projects

Earlier this year, it was announced that Meghan signed with a Hollywood talent agency- William Morris Endeavor (WME).

Harry is also reportedly heading out to South Africa by himself to film a Netflix documentary. A source told RadarOnline that Harry is "hoping to find himself" while out there.

The fact they have both forged out on their own has led some to speculate that the couple's marriage was on the rocks- as they are pursuing separate projects after previously working together on a number of things.

But others have said that Harry and Meghan may have realised that working on separate endeavours in addition to their joint commitments is a good money spinner for them.

Spare controversy

Many royal experts speculated that the release of Harry's memoir would be pushed back or cancelled after the death of his grandmother the Queen.

But in January, the bombshell novel was released, sparing no details about his alleged tough time in the firm. He claimed to have been attacked by his brother and slammed his dad and Camilla.

It was reported that the Royal Family were apparently furious about the claims made in the book and Harry's allegations.

His promotion of the memoir did not involve Meghan at all – although up until that point, all of their projects featured each other.

A source told the Telegraph that Meghan may have questioned the memoir and if it was a good idea. But afterwards, she gave him her support.

The fact that he did the high-profile interviews alone led some to falsely question if their relationship was in trouble.

Coronation appearance

It was unclear for weeks if the couple would make an appearance at King Charles' Coronation together after their reported feuds with the firm.

Harry made the journey to England alone in the end and Meghan missed the event as it was their son Archie's fourth birthday.

It did not stop some speculating that their marriage was struggling as they did not appear together at the event – even though Harry jetted back to his family straight after.

Finances

Harry and Meghan had a £15million deal with Spotify which included their podcast Archetypes. But it came to an end last month.

Some sources have alleged that they are concerned about their finances after the deal finished.

One claimed they are "under tremendous financial pressure to fund their lavish California lifestyle, including their $14 million mansion and huge security costs."

Rubbishing the rumours

Harry and Meghan were seen together earlier this month at a July 4 parade with their children. The rumour mill went into overdrive again about their relationship as they have not been seen together in public since.

But friends close to Harry and Meghan have rubbished the rumours. One told Page Six that the claims are false while Omid Scobie, who wrote biography Finding Freedom, also said they were untrue.
