There are some TV friendships that are so well-written that you can’t imagine those people not being friends in real life. However, every once in a while, a duo of enemies comes along that are so well-written, you’re shocked to learn that, in fact, they’re actually best friends in real life. Well, that’s exactly the case with these iconic frenemies from “The Office.”
It’s no secret that NBC’s “The Office” is one of the most beloved shows of all time. Despite it being over a decade since the show was on air, fans are still binging the show on any streaming platform they can get their hands on. From the ridiculous antics and the beloved characters, to the heartwarming moments and the ones that make you cringe; “The Office” will always hold a special place in the hearts of fans, and indeed for the cast, as well.
Did you know that many of the cast members are best friends in real life? This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise due to the actors’ incredible chemistry. But it’s always surprising when fans learn that Jenna Fischer (who played Pam) and Angela Kinsey (who played Angela) are actually BFFs despite their characters being enemies.
This is the moment Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey knew they'd be BFFs
Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey can both recall the exact moment that they became best friends. According to BuzzFeed, Fischer explained that the moment was when they were sitting on a bench “for two full shoot days, which is about 12 hours each day,” adding that by the end of the day, they had both told each other their “life story.” Fischer added that as they left the set that day, they were both “so giddy.” She explained, “We had this really fun friendship. You don’t expect to make a friendship like this when you’re older.”
According to Kinsey, she and Fischer left the set that night “like school girls.” She explained, “Like school girls, we linked arms and started doing Schlemiel and Schlimazel from Laverne & Shirley and Steve [Carell] was walking up behind us. We were so embarrassed and we were laughing. Steve was like, ‘No matter what happens, this is what you’ll take with you. This.’ And he pointed at the two of us. He was so right.”
Since then, their friendship has only grown, becoming like sisters to one another. Kinsey called Fischer a “life anchor” to her, elaborating that brainstorming ideas with Fischer helps the world make sense. “The big things, the small things. Once I tell it to her, I’m at peace with it, or I can navigate it,” per People.
Fischer and Kinsey won an award for their Office podcast
They say not to mix business with pleasure. But Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey have found a way to make it totally work. In fact, they have become so close that they have even embarked on a few business ventures together. Just as so many modern friends do, Fischer and Kinsey started a podcast together. It’s called “Office Ladies,” and it involves them breaking down individual episodes of “The Office” to share exclusive behind-the-scenes stories and facts. The podcast is still up and running, with new episodes being posted regularly, and it even won Podcast of the Year in 2021! According to People, they make excellent business partners due to their similar values and working habits.
“What’s great is that we can put our values into how we do business. And we have a shorthand because we’re best friends,” explains Fischer. “So when Angela is blowing up my phone at 11:30 at night, or when I’m blowing up her phone at 7:15 in the morning because we get inspired at different times, we can text back, ‘Lady, I’m not listening to this until tomorrow. But fire away.'”
They hang out just like real best friends do
Their successful working relationship has now even led to them writing a book together. Fischer and Kinsey co-wrote “The Office BFFS: Tales of The Office from Two Best Friends Who Were There” (due for release on February 8, 2022). Per Showbiz Cheat Sheet, Fischer says that she and Kinsey worked on a manuscript for the book for over a year.
According to Amazon, the book offers “an intimate, behind-the-scenes, richly illustrated celebration of beloved ‘The Office’ co-stars Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey’s friendship, and an insiders’ view of Pam Beesly, Angela Martin, and the unforgettable cast of the hit series’ iconic characters. Featuring many never-before-seen photos.” If you’re buzzing to get your hands on the book, you can pre-order it now.
Outside of business ventures, Fischer and Kinsey go on vacations together, have playdates with their children, wear matching clothes, consistently support each other’s respective projects, and do exactly what you’d expect best friends to do (via Bustle).
While Pam Beesly and Angela Martin might not be friends on TV, we’re so glad that Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey are BFFS in real life.
