TV presenter Helen Skelton was mocked by her co-star Jules Hudson on their Channel 5 show last night. The pair were watching a demonstration by a team of Coopers, who were making wooden barrels.
“So you’re literally just holding these together with your hands,” Helen asked as they got to work, holding the timber staves into place with one hand and adding additional lengths of wood with the other.
“And then the finished barrel, do you glue it together?” she went on to ask.
“No, it’s pure butt joint,” one of the men replied.
“You can’t tell a cooper that he glues it together,” Jules said to Helen.
“It was a question!
“I didn’t know what a cooper was, OK,” Helen admitted.
A cooper is a person who is trained to make the likes of wooden barrels and buckets from timber staves, narrow lengths of wood with a slightly bevelled edge.
The exchange happened during last night’s episode of Summer On The Farm.
The show follows the goings on at Cannon Hall Farm in South Yorkshire.
Helen took to social media ahead of the first episode of the new series to give fans an update and to warn them that it was going to be filmed live.
“What could go wrong,” she joked alongside a picture of herself on Instagram.

“Have a super week!” her fellow Countryfile star Matt Baker remarked in the comment section of her post.
Their co-star Julia Bradbury also showed her support, adding a flexed bicep emoji and yellow heart.
“What an absolute joy that opening episode was,” one follower added.
“Totally agree… well said….it was superb…” another user chipped in, sharing a similar thought.
Last night, Helen also shared a behind-the-scenes video with her 240,000 followers on the micro-blogging site.
“It’s a bit different on the Farm tonight,” the mum-of-two said to the camera as she filmed the set for fans.
“…there’s all these people,” she added, as she spun it around to reveal the cast and crew.
Helen went on to say that it was lovely to have a “proper set” once again, following the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent restrictions which are slowly beginning to ease.
Summer On The Farm continues tonight on Channel 5 at 8pm.
