The Georgia-born artist reveals in a new interview that people felt like he was ‘arrogant, cocky, stuck up’ and stupid after he declared himself as the ‘King on RnB.’
AceShowbiz –Jacquees didn’t regret crowning himself as the king of R&B despite earning backlash. Nearly four years after giving himself the title, the “You” singer explained why he won’t retract his proclamation.
“I wouldn’t take back nothing I said because that’s the energy,” the 28-year-old stated in an interview with Rap-Up. “That’s how I felt at the time.”
Reflecting on the moment, Jacquees shared, “I’m coming so humble now.” He added, “Looking back, I know it put like a dent on my career at the time, because it made people feel like I’m arrogant, cocky, stuck up, stupid.”
“They just thought I was on some bulls**t. They loved me, then they hated me,” the Georgia-born artist continued. “I went from being Jacquees that everybody love, this young kid singing about sex and s**t… He’s so cute, innocent to boom, f**k Jacquees. Who the f**k he think he is?”
“People was acting like they didn’t know who I was… I’m like, I need these people to just know me. I’m the king of R&B,” he further elaborated. “Once I said the statement, I realized, ‘Oh, y’all do know me. Y’all just wasn’t trying to show me no love.’ Everybody commented on that. Bro, I was on the news.”
Jacquees has learned a lot from the controversy though. “That’s who I was. I was young, I was 23,” he said. “I’m 28 now, I’m wiser. I just hope people can feel my heart. ‘Cause everybody grew up, I just had to grow up in front of the game.”
Jacquees made his bold proclamation back in December 2018. “I just wanna let everybody know that I’m the king of R&B right now,” the Cash Money singer said in an Instagram clip. “For this generation, I understand who done came and who done did that and that and that, but now it’s my time, Jacquees the king of R&B.”
