James Cameron believes Titan submersible safety warnings went ‘unheeded’ before implosion, plus reactions from Joe Exotic, Donald Trump Jr. and more

The worst possible scenario has occurred. On June 22, 2023, it was confirmed that five people perished aboard the OceanGate Titan, a sightseeing submersible that suffered a “catastrophic implosion” in the Atlantic Ocean during a dive to the Titanic shipwreck site. The five people aboard included Titan’s creator, three businessmen and a teenager. The sad announcement came after search and rescue teams spent four days scouring the ocean for signs of the sub. Debris from the Titan was ultimately found about 1,600 feet from the Titanic’s bow.

As the situation unfolded in real time, many celebrities and bold-faced names weighed in with their thoughts…

“@DanCrenshawTX quit looking for someone to blame. They built it, got in it and took that risk, launched it and if it imploded no one could have done anything. Hats off to the @USCG and everyone who searched for it. Maybe God just don’t want us at the bottom of the ocean to screw with things.” –Joe Exotic, whose tweet trended on Twitter after he responded to Congressman Dan Crenshaw’s comments politicizing the Titan incident by claiming “the US Government unnecessarily delayed the deployment of proper search & recovery equipment from reaching the Titanic”

“I’m struck by the similarity of the Titanic disaster itself, where the captain was repeatedly warned about ice ahead of his ship and yet he steamed at full speed into an ice field on a moonless night and many people died as result,” “Titanic” Director James Cameron told ABC. “And for a very similar tragedy where warnings went unheeded to take place at the same site —with all the diving that’s gone on all around the world — I think is astonishing. It’s really quite surreal.”

“It’s interesting because the Titanic itself went down because of human incompetence and stupidity on the part of, according to the movies, hubris, and the same with this,” “The View” co-host Joy Behar said during the Hot Topics segment of her daytime talk show on June 21. “That’s the irony of it. They’re going to see the same thing is happening to them. It’s very sad and scary.”

“Literally everything I’ve seen about this missing submarine is insane and sketchy AF… almost none of it makes any sense whatsoever. How long till we find other external factors making it even more so???” —Donald Trump Jr.

“The View” co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin weighed in amid search and rescue efforts during her morning talk show’s Hot Topics segment on June 21. “We need hope. I’m praying for a miracle, because I think we’re in a window now where there’s about 30 hours of oxygen left in this submersible. I’m fascinated by this story because, while I can’t personally relate to wanting to do extreme adventures, my husband is very much like this,” she said. “There’s something about the human spirit that wants to explore the unknown, but the problem here is this company was cutting corners left and right. This was basically a stitched-together — they were using a Game Boy console to guide this thing at the depths of the ocean. I hope — I know these folks signed a lot of paperwork — but I hope, however this ends up, there’s a massive lawsuit, because they put tons of lives at risk.”

Cardi B shared her thought on the behavior of Brian Szasz, the stepson of billionaire Hamish Harding — who is aboard the missing Titanic-bound submersible. While search and rescue missions were underway, Brian attended a blink-182 concert— and tweeted at the band’s members (“My stepdad Hamish is on this submarine lost at sea. I’m devastated but coming to the San Diego show tonight so you guys can give me hope and cheer me up,” he wrote”) and messaged an OnlyFans model about a sexual act.

Cardi ripped Brian for his actions while his stepdad is missing. “People is like, ‘Well what is he supposed to do?” Cardi said on her Instagram Story on June 20. “‘Be sad at the house? Is he supposed to go look for himself?’ Yes,” Cardi said. “You supposed to be at the house sad. You supposed to be crying for me. You supposed to be right next to the phone waiting to hear any updates about me.” She added, “Isn’t it sad that you a whole f****** billionaire and nobody gives a f*** about you? That’s crazy. I’d rather be broke. I’d rather be broke and poor, but knowing that I’m loved.”

Brian saw Cardi’s video and didn’t appreciate her take. “What a pos trashy celeb. Cardi B trying to get clout off me and my families suffering,” he tweeted. “I went to a Blink 182 concert for coping rather than sitting at home and watching the news. Shame on you Cardi get some class!”

“Who gets into a submarine that’s not Jacques Cousteau? You want to be adventurous? Drink four margaritas and see what happens. Try a bathing suit on without your underwear, go to Burning Man dressed as a parakeet, I don’t know. But going on a submarine, jumping out of airplanes, riding motorcycles, swimming with sharks — all of these things seem like a bad idea, And it’s so tragic and so sad and so terrible. God bless those poor people.” —Bethenny Frankel

“All I can think is refugees capsize  no one cares – some billionaires on joy rides go  missing  – it seems like multiple navy’s are instantly searching” —John Cusack

“They’re dead. Charge their estates for the cost of the search and move on.” –Ethan Embry

While on her “Queen Radio” show, Nicki Minaj said, “No one should be hopping they a** on a submarine talking ’bout they going down to the Titanic. I’m keeping all five passengers in my prayers and wishing all the best to search and rescue teams. I just hope everyone stays safe.”

After reading a New York Post story in which Stockton Rush, the CEO of OceanGate Expeditions — which operates the Titan submersible on which he and four others are trapped — said he didn’t hire “50-year-old white guys” with military experience to captain his vessels because they weren’t “inspirational,” conservative media pundit Ann Coulter took to Twitter. “CEO of Titanic disaster said white guy expertise was unnecessary because ‘anybody can drive the sub’ with a $30 video game controller,” Ann tweeted as a search and rescue mission unfolded. “I just hope the Coast Guard sailors trying to rescue him aren’t WHITE GUYS. Maybe this is how Wokeism dies. ‘Diverse’ sub operators, pilots, surgeons, electricians, etc eventually kill them all off.”
