James Corden is set to make his return to comedic acting in a new six-part Amazon series called Mammals.
The 42 year old Late Late Show host will be starring alongside The Shape of Water’s Sally Hawkins and The Irregulars’ Henry Lloyd-Hughes in the new production.
While the plot is still tightly under wraps, writer Jez Butterworth said: "A good marriage is the most magical thing.
"In a world of eight billion, you’ve found the one who gets you, ignites your body and soul. Who allows you to grow and flourish. Who gives you the spark, the confidence to become you.
"You’re also never going to have sex with anyone else, ever, and then you’re going to die, and be dead forever.”
Jez has had nothing but glowing reviews for James’ performance in previous hit Gavin and Stacey, saying that his performance as Smithy is "for the ages”.
He said: “His performance in One Man Two Governors was like seeing Mickey Rooney, Terry-Thomas and The Marx Brothers rolled into one.
"His Smithy in Gavin and Stacey is for the ages – he took a needy, big-hearted mess of a supporting character and made it iconic.
"But neither is a patch on his Sea Monster in The Late Late Show Shape of Water sketch with Sally Hawkins. Google it.”
Co-creator and Executive Producer for the upcoming show, James Richardson, said about the production: "Having seen all his plays, and having worked with Jez on three seasons of Britannia, I know that there is no better storyteller in the world to shine a light into the darkness of relationships.
“And no more talented, fearless, or funnier actors than James, Sally, Melia, Colin and Samuel to portray our leads."
Filming of the new Amazon show is set to begin later this month.
It comes after James reunited with his family in the UK for the first time in more than a year as they gathered to watch the Euro 2020 football tournament earlier this month.
The TV presenter, 42, had been unable to visit his beloved family for over a year due to the restrictions enforced by the global pandemic.
This meant that the talk show host, who was recently asked to return ancient stone monolith from his garden, was unable to fly back home to his family in Berkshire until the US was moved onto the amber list, meaning people could visit from the States.
