Leanne Battersby actress Jane Danson, 42, has opened up on her reaction to her former Coronation Street co-star Vicky Entwistle, 52, posting critical tweets about her recent storyline in the ITV soap. Vicky, who played Leanne’s step mum Janice in the show, hit out at the episodes which showed Jane’s character losing her terminally ill son Oliver (played by Toby Catley).

Although viewers and critics praised Jane’s performance during the heartbreaking storyline, Vicky argued the writing on the show was poor.

Jane explained that despite Vicky’s recent apology for her Twitter posts, she did find the comments “hurtful”.

The actress said: “She did apologise, she said sorry.

“I think the problem with Twitter is, people say things in the moment and often they sound a little bit harsher than what they were or people take it differently.

“On that occasion, yeah, I thought it was mean. But she did apologise so I suppose you have to draw a line.”

Explaining why Vicky’s remarks upset her at the time, Jane added: “When you work really hard on something and somebody who understands that situation makes a comment like that, it is hurtful.

“So, yeah, I was a bit hurt by it but I’ve kind of let it go now!”

Vicky had tweeted in reference to Jane’s storyline: “Imagine if she had better writers behind her!!! That really would have been something!!!”

Jane then hit back at the post, saying: “Thats so disrespectful.

“They were some of the best scripts I have ever had.”

She added: “Shame on you for writing that! Very disappointed how mean that comment was!”

Vicky then said sorry for her choice of words, tweeting: “I have apologised to @RealJaneDanson this morning.

“Rightly so. She is a wonderful Actress! My tweet was childish & hurtful.

“I realise that & am truly sorry for any hurt I may have caused.”

Jane previously revealed she found the storyline “overwhelming” to work on in an interview last year.

The Corrie favourite told host Lorraine Kelly during an appearance on ITV’s Lorraine: “It’s been overwhelming really, we’ve been discussing this storyline for quite some time.

“And even though across the years I have had so many wonderful stories, this has felt like the most important, certainly the most challenging.

“There are a lot of families out there going through what Leanne is going through, so we had a huge responsibility to get this right.

“It is an enormous week for this story, not just for Leanne but all the other characters involved, Nick, Tracey.”

“You were saying you were crying sometimes reading the scripts?” asked Lorraine, as Jane nodded.

“Yeah it’s been really tough,” Jane admitted.
