Jane Fonda, 84, has been in the public eye for half a century, and has now bravely declared that at her age, she is just being “realistic” about her circumstances. The Grace and Frankie star shows no sign of slowing down though, as she has been continuing to balance her cancer treatments, family, fitness, and her work as a climate activist.

Jane shared in a recent interview that as she approaches her 85th birthday, she has come to terms with her mortality and encouraged others her age to do the same.

She said: “When you get to be my age, you better be aware of the amount of time that is behind you as opposed to in front of you.

“That’s just realistic.

“I’m not afraid of going. I’m ready, I’ve had a great life. Not that I want to go but I’m aware that it’s going to be sooner rather than later.”

She assured her fans that she is handling her cancer treatments pretty well, noting that she just experiences a bit of tiredness during the weeks she receives chemotherapy.

Jane told Entertainment Tonight: “The week that I get chemo is challenging. You get tired but then after that week it’s great.

“I’m doing fine.”

The Barbarella star has been inundated with love and support from fans and fellow celebrities since announcing her diagnosis on Instagram.

She said in reference to the well wishes: “It means a lot to me. It moves me very much.”

Jane’s seemingly morbid outlook on her future has not affected her willingness to make plans with those that mean the most to her.

Speaking about her plans to celebrate her 85th birthday on December 21, Jane revealed: “My family will be there.

“My daughter and grandkids will come in from Vermont and my son and his wife and child who live in Los Angeles and a few friends will come over.

“We’ll have a quiet time.”

Jane is undoubtedly a family-centric person, and declared that the one thing she hopes to see before she dies is her grandchildren grow “old enough”.

She said she wants to “see my grandkids get old enough so I go out knowing that they’re going to be okay. That will be important.”

Two of Jane’s grandchildren are currently in college, while her youngest grandchild is just three years old.

The Hollywood star noted that she will still be campaigning for environmental change regardless, saying: “I’ll be doing that until I drop.”

Jane also revealed that she still sticks to her workout routine, although her fitness regime is now vastly different from the intense exercises she did during her hit home workout videos.

She also admitted she doesn’t actually use any of her own videos anymore.

Jane said: “When you’re almost 85 the mantra is slow.

“Obviously, I don’t use the same heaviness of weights as I used but what’s important is to keep moving. I’m so grateful that I’ve stayed strong and flexible.”
