Jason Manford, 40, recalled breaking down in his car after the late Les Dawson’s wife Tracy, told him something so moving which he will take to his grave. It comes after ITV aired a new documentary on what would have been the comedian’s 90th birthday, which paid a loving tribute to the legendary stand-up comic.

As I left Tracy said ‘Les would’ve loved you’ and I had a little cry in my car

Les was an English comedian, actor, writer, and presenter, who is best remembered for his deadpan style, curmudgeonly persona and jokes about his mother-in-law and wife.

And while fans of the funny man may have thought they knew the real Les, never-before-seen archive footage revealed there was a lot more to him than what they got from his public persona he was famed for.

The doc featured various contributors including fellow comedians, and Jason was honoured to have been involved.

Taking to Twitter after the programme had aired, he revealed he had a little cry after speaking to Tracy while filming the show.

“‘Les Dawson: The Lost Tapes’ now on ITV Hub. Such an honour to be part of a show about my favourite comedian of all time,” he penned.

“Always love spending time with Tracy & Charlotte and chatting about Les.”

He added: “As I left Tracy said ‘Les would’ve loved you’ and I had a little cry in my car.”

Fans rushed to the comments section to share their views on the doc and gush over Tracy’s loving words.

“Aww what a lovely thing to say….. no surprise you were moved by it!!” one beamed, pleased for Jason.

Another wrote: “What a glorious thing to say!”

“Ahh Jason, he defo would’ve loved you too! We all love you,” a third praised.

A fourth admitted the programme itself brought them to tears: “Fabulous programme I loved #LesDawson and I had a little cry too!”

“The man was a colossus, a comedy giant & you’re not far off, pal. You’ve done him proud, Jason,” a fifth commented lovingly.

A sixth added: “It was great. Sometimes this job is lovely innit.”
