Jelly Roll Shares 'Dragging These Roots' As Part Of Apple Music's 'Lost & Found'

Jelly Roll recently released a song, called “Dragging These Roots,” kicking off Apple Music‘s new “Lost & Found Program.”

In addition to Taste of Country, Apple Music Country host Kelleigh Bannen, Jelly Roll and songwriter Lori McKenna were also on hand for the event.

Ben Hayslip, Josh Thompson and Jessy Frasure co-wrote “Dragging These Roots.”

The demo for the track was presented to Apple Music in 2019. Jelly, who normally doesn’t cut outside songs, chose to do “Dragging These Roots” on finding his friend Frasure listed as one of the co-writers.

“I believe that songwriters are the backbone of this town,” Jelly Roll told American Songwriter. “I thought this would be a great opportunity to stand by my songwriter brothers and sisters, bring attention to how important they are to the community of music in general.”

“I called Frasure on FaceTime from their listening room to let him know I was definitely cutting the song,” Jelly said. “I’m so grateful to Apple Music for shining a light on all these creators and their great artistry.”

“I was hoping it would eventually get to see the light of day,” Frasure told Apple Music. “Having one of my favorite artists and friends, Jelly Roll, be the one to cut it was icing on the cake. We had a great time going into the studio on this one. He’s a truly soulful singer behind the scenes, and he put so much heart into it. I can’t wait!”

Overall, Apple Music worked with the songwriting community to find and release six lost demos that country stars will rerecord. The “found” songs will live on Spatial Audio, available on Apple Music.
