Jerry Hall, 65, who will be appearing on Celebrity Antiques Road Trip this evening, tied the knot with husband and media mogul Rupert Murdoch, 90, in 2016. The American model stunned in a blue Vivienne Westwood dress for the ceremony, while her other half coordinated with her in a blue suit.
However, Murdoch’s niece Penny has revealed in a recently unearthed interview from 2019 that the billionaire businessman had his doubts about Jerry when they first met.
Penny introduced the couple and attempted to convince them to start dating by praising each of them to the other in private discussions.
Penny explained she knew the pair were “made for each other”, but that she had to give Murdoch “a little push”, as he was worried that Jerry was “too famous for him”.
During a family interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Penny divulged: “I just knew they were made for each other, but Rupert’s so shy, I had to give him a little push because he thought she was too famous for him!”
Jerry also took the opportunity to praise her husband for changing her life.
The star told the publication: “My life has certainly changed.
“Rupert is the most wonderful husband.
“He’s so easy-going. Such beautiful manners.”
Jerry was previously in a relationship with The Rolling Stones frontman Sir Mick Jagger.
The former couple started dating in 1977 and went on to share four children: Elizabeth, James, Georgia May and Gabriel.
According to reports, the stars got married in Bali in 1990, but the marriage was later found not to be legal under British or Indonesian law.
Jerry and Mick split in 1999.
