Jimmy Carr has announced his son's name in a heartfelt interview about his role as a father.

The 49 year old comedian secretly welcomed his little boy with partner Karoline Copping, 46, two years ago.

He has now revealed he and Karoline were inspired by American businessman John D. Rockefeller when they decided to call their now-toddler Rockefeller.

The 8 Out Of 10 Cats host also shared his son's name was partly as a result of his love for US funny-man Chris Rock too, whom he labelled the "greatest ever comedian".

"It could be a bit of a gear shift, because of the kind of comedy I do," Jimmy told Radio Times about his new lifestyle.

"But so far, I'm still telling the same jokes, I've got the same sense of humour.

"We'll see, because I'm sure I'm going to be writing a lot of material about him."

The star then joked his son might be "tax-deductible" as he referenced an investigation by The Times in June 2012 that brought to light his involvement in an alleged K2 tax avoidance scheme.

Speaking about that time, Jimmy explained to the publication that while people "thought it was water off a duck's back" to him, he insisted it "was really horrible" and he "had panic attacks".

The TV star confirmed he is now a father during his stand-up comedy show in London some weeks ago, where The Sun reported he had brought up his little boy during a joke about adoption.

"I had to tell my little boy he's adopted. I mean, he isn't, but the look on his face," the star quipped to a snickering audience.

"I said, 'No, no, no, you were adopted, the new family is picking you up tomorrow.'"

He also teased that he and Channel 5 commissioning editor Karoline, whom he has been with since 2001 after they met at an audition, are going to have a gender reveal party for their son when he's "21 just to be sure".

"With some babies you can't tell, is it a boy or an ugly girl?" he chuckled.

Jimmy was first pictured pushing a pram near his North London home in March last year.
