Jo Whiley shuts down BBC Breakfast presenters
BBC Radio 2 presenter Jo Whiley has revealed one of her most awkward post-performance interviews at the Glastonbury festival.
The 57-year-old helms the BBC’s television coverage of the event and as part of that role she gets to interview the stars as they come off stage.
However, it isn’t always an easy job as she has revealed an interview with Paul Simon was a “difficult situation” when he appeared at the festival.
“He wasn’t very well when he did his Glastonbury,” Jo admits of the Diamonds on the Soles of her Shoes singer.
“It was quite painful because he was just analysing his performance.
“It was a difficult situation. There is a lot of pressure,” she conceded in an interview with the Sunday Mirror.
Paul, who was once married to the late Star Wars icon Carrie Fisher, headlined the Sunday afternoon legends slot on the Pyramid Stage at the festival in 2011 and hasn’t performed there since.
He hasn’t been the only interviewee to prove challenging for the mum of three though.
Ever the diplomat she said: “No one’s ever tricky. People are nervous.
“I remember interviewing Coldplay when they came off stage,” she recalled.

“We interviewed Chris and then I said at the end of it, ‘OK, let’s look at your performance,’ and he just walked out across the camera because he didn’t want to watch it back!”
Jo will be interviewing more legends at this year’s festival which kicks off next Wednesday June 21.
Elton John will headline on the Sunday night will Arctic Monkeys and Guns and Roses will do the honours on Friday and Saturday respectively.
This year’s legends slot is filled by seventies icon Yusuf/Cat Stevens who will treat fans to his hits such as Father and Son and Morning Has Broken.

Other acts appearing over the five days of the festival include Sparks, Lil Nas X, Chvrches, Nova Twins and Raye.
Also appearing is Milkshake singer Kelis, 43, who is rumoured to be dating iconic Hollywood funnyman Bill Murray, 72.
Despite their 30-year age gap, the pair appear to have been getting cosy.
The Ghostbusters actor was apparently seen watching the mother-of-three perform from the side of the stage in London last weekend.
The father-of-six was also snapped during Kelis’ set at the Mighty Hoopla festival in Brockwell Park, South London.
Jo Whiley will broadcast from Glastonbury as part of the BBC’s coverage of the festival across TV, radio, BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds, from Wednesday 21 June to Sunday 25 June.
