He’s spent the past year as Dan Lewis saving the universe alongside Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor Who, but now John Bishop, 55, is returning to more familiar ground. The Liverpudlian comedian is back with his infamous comedy gold on his new talk show on ITV, but there’ll be something very different about the stand-up performance during the six-parter.
It gets judged by a different world

In a new interview, the funnyman admitted he’s making some huge changes to his jokes in order to avoid “woke criticism”.
He claimed being a stand-up comic and a TV presenter are two “very different things”, noting that in order to captivate viewers he’d need to change things.
And it doesn’t look like he’s shaken Doctor Who just yet, as he described his fears as being “exterminated by snowflakes”.
The series will see Bishop performing stand-up routines, chatting to celebrities and showcasing the talents of comics from around the world.
Of his jokes, he pointed out: “When I am on tour I can say anything I want on stage and you can work within the parameters of the audience feedback because it’s immediate.
“When it’s on telly I get judged in a different way.
“If people want to get offended they will get offended before you’ve even finished your sentence.
“It gets judged by a different world.”
He went on to explain: “When I am on tour, people have bought a ticket to sit in the room with me.
“But the difference with telly is that I am going into someone’s living room and they didn’t necessarily invite me… you are almost like a burglar.
“You have got to change things to accommodate as many people as possible without losing the essence of what I do.

“It’s a tightrope that can be walked.”
While adapting his comedy accordingly, he knows he can’t please everyone.
He admitted The John Bishop Show will undoubtedly offend some viewers, but he wants to limit the damage as much as possible.
And with good reason, as he unveiled bigger plans with ITV could be on the cards in the future.
“There is something else I am going be doing next year but we have yet to nail it down,” he grinned.
“If that happens and you get an opportunity to go to somewhere that likes you, why wouldn’t you?”
The John Bishop Show starts this Saturday at 9.30pm on ITV.
