Lead singer of Sex Pistols John Lydon, 65, has opened up on his wife Nora Forster’s, 75, Alzheimer’s diagnosis, admitting he has now accepted her condition as “incurable.” The star, known by his stage name Johnny Rotten, went on to say that despite Nora forgetting most things, she “doesn’t forget me”.

She doesn’t forget me. She forgets everything else but not me.

The rock star revealed he has come to terms with her condition and the fact it will “never improve”.

Speaking to The Times, he addressed watching his wife deteriorate from the disease.

He said: “Alzheimer’s is a wicked, debilitating, slow, deliberate process, but we’re going through that together.

“She doesn’t forget me. She forgets everything else but not me.”

The singer said that despite knowing his wife’s condition will worsen, they’re facing it together.

He continued: “I know it’s going to deteriorate into something really, really terrible, but we’re facing it with a sense of dignity.”

John went on to highlight his commitment to his wife, saying he intended to take care of her himself.

“I mean, it would be easy enough to run away and say, ‘Oh, it’s not my responsibility; things aren’t the same’. B*****s to that,” he said.

He explained he was “proud to do the best I can” for his wife.

The couple have been married since 1979.

They reside primarily in California but also keep a home in London.

Despite the pair never having children, the rock star became the stepfather to Nora’s daughter Ariane.

In a radio interview three years ago, the singer revealed he feels like a natural carer to Nora, after he became guardian to his stepdaughter.

He said: “It’s something I feel I was trained for. One of my jobs before the Pistols was looking after problem children.

“The Sex Pistols were obviously problem children and anyone younger would also do for me. I’m a natural caregiver, I just can’t help it.”

The singer believes his wife first started displaying signs of Alzheimer’s following her daughter’s death from breast cancer aged 48.

In the interview, he also detailed how his wife carried a pink teddy to comfort her.

He also explained they spend quality time together watching comedies, as she becomes easily disorientated in new places.
