Jon Stewart Believes COVID-19 Pandemic Is Caused by Science as He Pushes Wuhan Lab-Leak Theory

Dr. Peter Hotez, meanwhile, claims that he and other scientists feel ‘under attack’ after the former host of ‘The Daily Show’ endorses the lab-leak hypothesis.

AceShowbizJon Stewart has supported a theory that COVID-19 was originated in a Wuhan lab. When sitting down on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert“, the former host of “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” claimed that the pandemic was “more than likely caused by science.”

The 58-year-old offered his two cents when speaking to Stephen Colbert on Monday, June 14. “I honestly mean this: I think we owe a great debt of gratitude to science,” he began. “Science has in many ways helped ease the suffering of this pandemic – which was more than likely caused by science.”

After Stephen asked whether he meant there was a chance that the virus was created in a lab, Jon was quick to reply, “A chance?” He added, “Oh my God, there’s a novel respiratory coronavirus overtaking Wuhan, China. What do we do? Oh, you know who we could ask? The Wuhan novel respiratory coronavirus lab. The disease is the same name as the lab. That’s just a little too weird.”

“So wait a minute, you work at the Wuhan respiratory coronavirus lab, and they’re like, a turtle kissed a penguin?” he quipped. “Maybe a bat flew into the cloaca of a turkey, and then it sneezed into my chili, and now we all have coronavirus.”

The comedian then jokingly compared the coronavirus outbreak to “an outbreak of chocolatey goodness near Hershey, Pennsylvania.” He said, “What do you think happened? Oh, I don’t know, maybe a steam shovel made it with a cocoa bean. Or it’s the f**king chocolate factory. Maybe that’s it.”

Jon went on to discuss science in the context of the pandemic. “Can I say this about science?” he asked Stephen. “I love them, and they do such good work, but they are going to kill us all.”

Jon’s rant has since caught the attention of vaccine expert Dr. Peter Hotez. Dr Peter believed that the former’s statements lacked evidence. Speaking to TMZ, the co-director of the Center for Vaccine Development at Texas Children’s Hospital pointed out, “They’re putting the entertainment value of this over and above what’s reality.”

“It causes a lot of damage because a number of scientists who work on coronaviruses including myself feel that we’re being under attack right now,” Dr. Peter continued. “The scientific community is open to the idea… but what I object to is the fact that they made it sound like it’s fait accompli when, in fact, it’s the less likely hypothesis of how COVID-19 originated and it’s tone deaf to the collateral damage that it has on scientists and the scientific community.”
