Jonathan Ross spotted in car that looks like it was designed by Homer Simpson

Jonathan Ross has been spotted driving around in an absolutely bizarre-looking car.

And in fact, to obsessive re-watchers of classic The Simpsons episodes, it might even look familiar – but we’ll get to that.

The comedian was seen driving through the streets of North London on Thursday in a classic Nissan S Cargo – once voted in a survey as one of the ugliest cars of all time.

Actor and TV host Jonathan clearly doesn’t care what other people think about his wheels, and looked content as anything driving the dark-and-light-green (yes, both) vehicle on the road.

The classic car was manufactured starting in 1989, but production stopped in 1991, possibly because it is simply so weird looking, with only around 8,000 ever made.

But if it looks similiar to you, that might be because it looks incredibly like a car featured in classic The Simpsons episode Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?

In the fan-favourite episode, Homer discovers his long-lost sibling, Herb (voiced by the delightful Danny DeVito,) who is rich and successful… until he meets his brother.

The season two episode sees Herb hire Homer to design a new car for his company, which Homer dutifully does, creating The Homer: ‘The Car Built For Homer.’

Surprise surprise, it is God Awful, and Herb’s company is instantly ruined.

The reveal of Homer’s creation is an absolute classic moment of the sitcom, with horrified gasps accompanying the curtain being swept away to show the car in all its glory.

Interestingly, the episode aired in 1991 – the year they stopped creating the Nissan S Cargo.

Though we’re sure that’s just a coincidence…

Jonathan himself recently made headlines as he took a swipe at the BBC, calling them a ‘boring’ network who doesn’t ‘take risks.’

Talking to Dermot O’Leary on his Audible podcast, he said: ‘I wish it was a little bit more interesting. A lot of the time it feels like they don’t take risks anymore, which they used to.’

However he admitted it’s partly his fault, referencing 2008’s ‘Sachsgate’: where he and Russell Brand called Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sachs live on-air and left rude messages on his answer phone.

At the time, the BBC sacked Russell and suspended Jonathan for three months, while Ofcom fined the BBC £150,000.

Jonathan continued: ‘To an extent, I sympathise with that, but at the same time that’s why I don’t listen to a lot.’
