Some former A Place in the Sun stars have credited cancer-stricken Jonnie Irwin for 'changing our lives'.
Jonnie, 49, who revealed his terminal cancer to the public in 2022 after being diagnosed in 2020, fronted the show for 18 years, and he has helped many people find their dream home in the sunshine.
Some of the people he have helped are Linda and Andy May, who relocated to Cyprus from Leicestershire, with Jonnie helping them to find their dream home.
Linda, 57, and Andy, 69, decided to apply to be on the show after going to the A Place in the Sun exhibition in 2018, where they met Jonnie and his co-star, Jasmine Harman.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Andy explained how they signed up for a screen test for "a bit of fun" not ever thinking that they would actually get through.
He went on to say that he "slammed the phone down" when he got the call from producers, but later realised it was not a hoax, and went on to do the screen test.
Talking about Jonnie, Andy revealed that the presenter had made them feel "so comfortable" as he spoke about how they all "bounced off each other" during filming.
He recalled fondly a time during filming when he "walked in the wrong direction" and "messed up the shot" as Jonnie told him: "You silly t**t."
Andy said that Jonnie "changed our lives for the better" as he revealed that he and his wife are still "very happy" living in Cyprus.
Jonnie has described the couple as his favourite ever buyers, which Andy said he was happy with.
Andy went on to talk about Jonnie's cancer diagnosis, as he recalled Jonnie messaging him and his wife to tell them that he was in Cyprus with his family, and asked if they would like to meet up.
Linda said: "I knew instantly something was wrong as he looked really poorly.
"We spent three hours with him having coffees and during the conversation, he told us that he had terminal lung cancer.
"I really had to hold back the tears. We’ve grown close to him, and even though we don’t get to see each other in person often we can’t imagine life without him."
They said "life feels so cruel" as they talked about Jonnie's three young sons and his wife, Jessica, who they met during filming.
Describing Jonnie as a "long lost brother" the couple said that they were "inspired by the way he's handled it all".
Speaking about Jonnie's terminal cancer diagnosis, they described it as "shocking" and said "if he could survive, it would be fantastic" but admitted that they "don't think it's going to happen".
Jonnie is battling stage 4 lung cancer, which has now spread to his brain.
