Julia Bradbury says breakthrough cancer treatment 'could've saved left breast'

Julia Bradbury has said she could have been spared ‘brutal’ treatment and saved her left breast, if she had received a new form of cancer testing.

The 51-year-old took to Twitter to explain that, had she been aware of a ‘saliva test’ – a new treatment that helps identify if women have breast cancer – ‘I could have saved my left breast….’

Sharing the post with her 173,500 followers, she added: ‘Thousands of other women could be saved from the trauma of brutal treatment.

‘Lives could be saved if this test was available on the NHS. Please share. #mastectomy #breastcancer #Awareness #prevention.’

The TV presenter accompanied the post with an article which detailed the genetic test rollout.

The article read: ‘Breakthrough for breast cancer as simple saliva test could spot women at the highest risk years earlier.

When probed on whether she ever thought about keeping the diagnosis from her kids, she told the panel: ‘I thought that was an impossibility, I thought they would find out because I had to cancel work too.

‘I knew it would come out, the worst thing again is if your kids hear about it at school through somebody else.’

In April a moving documentary showed Julia reunite with her children for the first time after she underwent a mastectomy last autumn.

‘We didn’t video call while I was in the hospital because I didn’t want to scare them,’ she explained.
