Kamala Harris Googled Douglas Emhoff Before Their Blind Date

Ahead of the inauguration, vice president-elect Kamala Harris and her husband, Douglas Emhoff, appeared on CBS Sunday Morning to discuss their relationship, their new roles in the White House, and the seriously cute way they met.

During the enlightening, and frankly adorable, interview, Harris and Emhoff discussed meeting on a blind date. When host Jane Pauley asked Harris if she’d Googled Emhoff when a friend set them up, the vice president-elect burst out laughing and revealed, “I’ve never been asked that! I did! … That’s so funny you asked me that question.” Emhoff’s reaction was very cute, as it appeared that the first Second Gentleman had no idea that his future wife had Googled him before their first date. “Ooo, this is a reveal,” he exclaimed.

Harris explained, “So, yes, my best friend set us up on a blind date and she said, ‘Just trust me, just trust me.’ … She wanted me to just kind of go into it, and she said, ‘Don’t Google him.’ I did.”

Emhoff proceeded to reveal that he’d spent a long time composing a text message to Harris, with the help of a friend. Emhoff revealed that the next morning he “left this ridiculous voicemail, which she has saved and plays back to me on our anniversary every year. I thought I’d never hear from her again, but …” Harris pitched in, “But, it was … adorable.”

Harris continued, “The thing about Doug is that he is exactly who he is. He’s just fully authentic, and clear about the things he cares about. It’s family, it’s his work …” Emhoff interrupted her to say, “You.”
