Kate and William meet delighted fans during Windsor walkabout ahead of Coronation concert

Prince William and Kate Middleton left Coronation Concert-goers shocked after they arrived to greet them on The Long Walk.

For the surprise walkabout, the Princess of Wales donned a light blue blazer, which she wore over a casual white T-shirt. She paired these with some casual dark trousers and white trainers, looking worlds away from her regal ensemble at yesterday's Coronation ceremony in Westminster Abbey.

Meanwhile, Prince William sported a dark suit as he shook hands with members of the public.

At one point, Kate, picked up a small union flag on a stick which had fallen on the floor and handed it to the well-wisher who dropped it.

Scores of people crowded around the royal couple, with William crouching down to chat to a boy and girl wearing golden crowns.

The prince and princess looked relaxed, with William telling one group of well-wishers: “Enjoy the concert tonight”.

The surprise appearance took place ahead of tonight's Coronation Concert, which will be kicking off at 8pm and will feature performances by Katy Perry, Take That, and Lionel Richie.

It came shortly after Buckingham Palace issued the first public statement on behalf of King Charles and Queen Camilla since they were crowned.

A Palace spokesman said the King and Queen were “deeply touched” by the nation’s celebration of their historic coronation.

The statement read: “Their Majesties were deeply touched by the events of yesterday and profoundly grateful both to all those who helped to make it such a glorious occasion – and to the very many who turned out to show their support in such numbers in London and further afield."

Tonight's concert will see the King, Queen and Royal Family join around 20,000 members of the public for the musical extravaganza, which will also see Prince William take to the stage to deliver a speech.

One royal who won't be in attendance at tonight's concert is Prince Harry, who has already been seen back in California after catching a British Airways flight within hours of the coronation ceremony.

Harry arrived at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) at around 7.30pm local time (3.30am UK) to reunite with his son on his birthday.

Prince Archie turned four on Saturday 6 May and spent the day with his mother, Meghan Markle, at their US home, while Harry attending his father's coronation alone.

British Airways flight attendants confirmed to the PA news agency that Harry had been on the flight but said they were not permitted to discuss the details of his trip.

Harry's appearance at the Coronation marked his first public appearance alongside the royals since he lambasted his family in his controversial memoir Spare, which was released earlier this year.
