Kate Garraway reveals incredible moment Alison Hammond was proposed to at airport

Alison Hammond recently received a marriage proposal at an airport, her flying companion Kate Garraway has revealed.

Kate, 55, revealed a hilarious travel moment that happened when she was travelling with fellow TV presenter Alison, which ended in a marriage proposal from a stranger.

Speaking to I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! winner Giovanna Fletcher on the Journey to the Magic podcast, Kate recalled the story of how Alison was proposed to by a stranger at the airport – after only being there for 15 minutes.

She told Giovanna: "I literally went to the loo, bought a cup of tea and came back and this guy had proposed. It was unbelievable.

"I was just like "what the heck". He just sat down and he proposed to her," she continued.

"It was extraordinary. She was just like 'yeah' and he proposed – really casual about it. I was like 'this is big stuff'."

However, she said that she did not think that Alison had seen the man since the proposal.

OK! has contacted Alison's representative for comment.

It comes after Alison's future father-in-law claimed she'd gotten engaged to her secret boyfriend Ben Hawkins after two years of dating.

However, speaking on This Morning last month, Alison awkwardly revealed that she was not engaged after her co-star Dermot O'Leary opened the show to the sounds of wedding bells and exclaimed: "I hear a congratulations are in order, someone is getting married."

Alison laughed: "Cut the music! I'm not engaged, I'm so sorry I'm not engaged!

"I told you, if I was ever to get engaged or get married I would be the first person to tell you! I'd put all over Instagram and TikTok!"

She continued: "Sorry, it's fake news! I'm not getting married. One day it might happen, but sorry babes but it's fake news."

"You'd be the first to know!"

"I was looking forward to walking you down the aisle!" Dermot joked.

Also in the podcast episode, Kate revealed that her last holiday before the pandemic was to Disneyland Paris. Two weeks later, her husband Derek was hospitalised with Covid-19.

She said the couple had brought their two kids for a weekend in Paris, and spent one day at the theme park as per the children's wishes, and then one day exploring the French capital.

Kate, who previously detailed the financial impact of her husband's health, went on to say that she was surprised at how "seriously" France had taken the increasing numbers of people getting Covid-19, with facemasks being out of stock in pharmacies.

However, life took a disastrous turn when Derek contracted Covid after they returned home. While he survived the virus, coronavirus left him fighting numerous health issues and spending months in hospital.

He has since moved back to their London home, but needs near constant carers and has been in and out of hospital in recent months.

Kate's family was supposed to return to Disneyland earlier this year, but Derek was forced to miss out on the trip as his health was not good enough to go.
