Being the Princess of Wales and married to the first-in-line to the British throne, Kate Middleton is one of the most senior members of the royal family.
Not only is she one of the most senior members, she is also one of the most popular and BBC's royal correspondent, Jennie Bond, exclusively spoke to OK! about the reasons that she's so loved.
Jennie said that 40 year old Kate's maternal side gives her the Diana touch, referring to Kate's late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, who died in 1997.
Jennie said: “I’m sure Catherine must get a little tired of comparisons with Diana. Having said that, she does have the same easy manner particularly when she’s with children. She very naturally, as Diana did, will stoop down and scoop them up in a very maternal and not at all regal way.
"She’s very natural and very charming. She has an easy way with everyone but particularly for children, which is what her mother in law had. I don't think she's ever tried to emulate or be Diana. I think she is just naturally a rather tactile and pleasant person.”
Jennie continued: “I think she's been stepping up and coming into her own really ever since Harry and Megan stepped back. There has naturally been a much larger workload for William and Catherine and she’s been in the royal circle for 20 years so knows the ropes. She's confident, she doesn't mind engaging with people and I think she quite relishes it.
"She’s gaining more confidence from the fact that people recognise she's doing a good job. There's nothing better than being recognised and I think it’s making her more confident. She is a natural, I think everyone regards Catherine as a very well liked and respected future queen.”
Kate's easy manner when it comes to children will be due to her having three of her own, who she shares with Prince William, 40: Prince George, nine, Princess Charlotte, seven, and Prince Louis, four.
Since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their roles as senior royals in 2020, before moving across the Atlantic, Kate and Prince William have stepped up their duties, representing the late Queen and now King Charles III at many royal appointments.
They are often also seen at certain events alongside King Charles and Camilla Queen Consort, and in October, the royal family released a very telling official portrait of the four together, signalling the new slimmed-down monarchy that Charles is curating.
The image of King Charles III and his Queen Consort, standing alongside the Prince and Princess of Wales, was taken at Buckingham Palace on September 18, just 10 days after Queen Elizabeth II’s death.
The senior royals are wearing black as the image was taken while they were in mourning for the Queen – leading the nation in grief, but also carrying out official engagements.
