Kathy Griffin Reveals Lung Cancer Diagnosis, Impending Surgery

Kathy Griffin made a shocking and sad statement on her social media account this morning.

The comedian revealed she’s been diagnosed with stage one lung cancer.

“I’ve got to tell you guys something. I have cancer. I’m about to go into surgery to have half of my left lung removed,” the 60-year old wrote, getting right to the point on Monday.

“Yes, I have lung cancer even though I’ve never smoked!”

Continued the veteran stand-up and actress:

“The doctors are very optimistic as it is stage one and contained to my left lung.

“Hopefully no chemo or radiation after this and I should have normal function with my breathing.

“I should be up and running around as usual in a month or less.”

Griffin is expecyed to open up about the diagnosis in an interview with co-anchor Juju Chang on ABC News’ Nightline on Monday night (12:35 a.m. ET on ABC).

In making this unexpected announcement, she concluded:

“It’s been a helluva 4 years, trying to get back to work, making you guys laugh and entertaining you, but I’m gonna be just fine.

“Of course I am fully vaccinated for Covid. The consequences for being unvaccinated would have been even more serious.

“Please stay up to date on your medical check ups. It’s save your life. XXOO, KG.”

Just over four years ago, Griffin posted a photo of herself and a model of Donald Trump’s decapitated head.

She was subsequently cut from an ad campaign and fired by CNN and has been trying to resurrect her career ever since.

In a clip from her interview with Change, Griffin says she is “still a little bit in shock” after finding out the news a few weeks ago.”

According to an ABC preview, the comedian will also discuss her mental health journey, her addiction to pills, a suicide attempt, her newfound sobriety and other topics as part of this sit-down.

Days before her reveal, Griffin shared a photo on Twitter of her shooting a new project.

“Back at work on a TV set, where I belong DAMMIT,” she captioned the snapshpt of her outside a trailer.

Last March, meanwhile, Griffin suffered a medical scare when she experienced COVID-19-like symptoms amid the ongoing pandemic, at one point going to the emergency room after experiencing “unbearably painful” symptoms — including nausea, diarrhea, chills and a sore throat.

At the time, she posted a photo of herself in a hospital bed wearing a mask.

The star married longtime boyfriend Randy Bick on New Year’s 2020 in what she described alongside footage on Twitter at the time as a ceremony lasting “just under 14 minutes.”

The comedian’s mother, Maggie, died in March 2020.

A year before, in January 2019, Griffin had revealed that her mother had been diagnosed with dementia.

We send Kathy Griffin our best wishes for a full recovery.
