Katya Jones has revealed how trolls criticised her weight after she went up a dress size over Christmas as she changed from a size six to a size eight.

Despite her petite figure, trolls were quick to notice the brunette beauty’s weight gain over the festive period and bombarded the Russian gem with hundreds of hateful comments.

The Strictly Come Dancing star, 32, admitted that since she joined the Strictly team it has been difficult to deal with online trolls as she grew in popularity on the show.

Katya appeared on the latest episode of Monday Mile podcast by Aimee l, in which she admitted how she struggles with the hateful comments about her weight online.

She said: “I see comments. People are saying, ‘Glad to see she’s losing some weight. She was looking a little bit chunky.’

“It’s like, ‘I went from a size six to a size eight – are you calling me chunky?’”

The professional dancer was last criticised online after her "drunken kiss" with her 2018 dance partner Seann Walsh, who has since admitted that he has been suffering with depression because of the scandal, surfaced while they were on the show, but continues to have a "positive mental attitude" through her life.

She added: “I try to have a positive mental attitude. I tried to look inside. I try to do what is good for me. I know when I am fit and healthy, I am energised.”

“I crave muscle ache and I want my feet to bleed. I can’t wait for the brain ache from coming up with all the ideas.

“I absolutely love it. When you do what you love, it’s not work. My work is my motivation.”

This comes after the Strictly winner admitted that the Strictly Come Dancing curse “helps stars realist they can do better” after her marriage to fellow Strictly star Neil Jones crumbled in 2018.

The couple ended their 12-year relationship shortly after her kiss with her dance partner comedian Seann Walsh became public, but has since reflected on the incident with a positive opinion.

Katya told The Sun how the BBC One show empowered contenders to leave “unhappy relationships” through the confidence they gained on the show.

Speaking to the publication, she said: “Obviously there have been lots of stories but also there are so many more examples of nothing happening, and people being happy at home with their families.

“But I think some people get empowered by it because of the sense of achievement they get from doing this show.

“Maybe they didn’t have the confidence, or the strength, to do these things before, or maybe some people were in long-term, unhappy relationships and doing Strictly empowered them to realise they could do better.

“People find themselves again. They realise they can do this and feel they can take on the work – that's the amazing thing about this show.”
