Strictly Come Dancing star Katya Jones, 32, has spoken out after being cruelly trolled over her weight, after going from a size six to a size eight in the space of a month. Speaking on the Monday Mile podcast with host Aimee Fuller, the professional dancer addressed the mental pressure of being a certain weight and shape for her job.

Mentally it’s not an easy place to be

The star candidly opened up about the comments she has been receiving and revealed that she couldn’t believe what she was reading.

Talking to the podcast host, she said: “I see comments. People are saying, ‘Glad to see she’s losing some weight. She was looking a little bit chunky.’

“It’s like, ‘I went from a size six to a size eight — and you’re calling me chunky?” the star said, confused.

Katya continued to add that as a professional dancer, she felt pressure to maintain a certain weight.

She admitted: “Mentally it’s not an easy place to be.

“You’re expected to be that certain shape that represents a dancer.”

The star divulged that despite the pressures on her mental health to be a certain weight and size, she intuitively knows when she’s healthy.

“I try to have a positive mental attitude. I tried to look inside. I try to do what is good for me. I know when I am fit and healthy, I am energised,” Katya said.

The Russian native has been confirmed as part of the Strictly 2021 lineup.

Speaking about getting back onto the dancefloor, the dance pro said she “can’t wait” to stimulate her body and mind by practising routines

“I crave muscle ache and I want my feet to bleed.

“I can’t wait for the brain ache from coming up with all the ideas,” she added.

Katya continued: “I absolutely love it. When you do what you love, it is not work. My work is my motivation.”

Earlier this year the Strictly star revealed that she had deleted a dating app from her phone after her “self-esteem” took a knock, while looking for a potential suitor following her split from Strictly co-star Neil Jones.

Talking about her experience with dating apps, Katya admitted that they weren’t for her.

“I did try an app, I got really excited about it. Then it hit my self-esteem, I got bored and deleted it,” the dancer said.

“I realised it wasn’t right for me. I actually outreached to my Instagram followers and asked them how they are interacting with people and dating etc. A lot of people said through apps, but this isn’t for me.

“I don’t want to use apps as a way to kill time,” she told Waggel.

The Strictly 2017 champion said she preferred face-to-face exchanges.

“I genuinely want to make a connection, maybe I’m an old romantic,” she added.
