Kay Burley, 60, took to her Twitter account to comment on her former Sky News colleague Simon McCoy’s departure from BBC News, after it was confirmed that he would be moving across to GB News. The presenter appeared completely clueless about his exit from the public broadcaster, as she joked about him “only going out for some milk”.

Kay retweeted a press release from GB News’ Twitter account announcing Simon’s new role and typed in view of her 518,500 followers: “He told me he was only going out for some milk,” and shared a shrugging emoji.
Underneath fans weighed in on the revelation, as they wished him luck at the Andrew Neil chaired network.
One said: “It never ceases to amaze me how important Sky News is in cultivating news media talent. Kudos!”
Another replied: “How long before they sign up you and Piers [Morgan]?”
A third claimed: “All are leaving the sinking ship, pandemic reporting has been dreadful.”
While a fourth suggested: “Looking forward to the announcement that @piersmorgan is joining them!”
Simon and Kay worked together in the early days of their career at Sky News.
The former was at the satellite channel from 1988 before heading over to the public broadcaster’s BBC Breakfast show, and later going on to become the main presenter of the BBC News at One.
While Kay also started at Sky in 1988 and has remained there ever since, now presenting her eponymous show on the channel.
However, she was suspended for six months back in December, after breaching coronavirus restrictions.
Simon this morning confirmed he had left BBC News after nearly 18 years on Twitter.
The bombshell came after floor manager Niall Jackson let slip it was his “final day”.

“We’ll miss his one-liners, pregnant pauses and commitment to breaking news in every form, and wish him the very best for the future.”
BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker, wrote: “Farewell to @BBCSimonMcCoy – it’s his last day at @BBCNews today.
“Always enjoyed working with him & I think we’ll all miss moments like this [crying with laughter emoji].”
Following the news of his departure today, Andrew Neil confirmed he will be joining GB News.
He commented: “Oh yes. @BBCSimonMcCoy is joining @GBNEWS… another great hire!!”
Director of News and Programmes, John McAndrew, said: “Simon’s journalistic integrity, warmth and personality is a perfect fit for what we’re doing at GB News.
“He’s a brilliant journalist with an exceptional ability to relate to people in an upbeat way so we’re keen to get him out from behind a desk and talking to people from all parts of the United Kingdom.”
