Kaye Adams admits she’s ‘not good at the sexy stuff’ as she talks Strictly Come Dancing

Loose Women favourite Kaye Adams has been announced as part of this year's Strictly Come Dancing line-up, and already she's thinking about what she will be like on the dancefloor.

Kaye, 59, admits she doesn't know what came over her when she agreed to take part in the competition alongside Paralympic swimming gold medallist Ellie Simmonds and Britain’s Got Talent finalist Molly Rainford, as she said: “I’m really not good at all the sexy stuff.

"I’m pretty good at performance if it’s jokey because I’m a bit of a show-off. I’ve done some ridiculous things on Loose Women – I’ve laid half-naked in a bed of cabbage and I can’t even remember why!"

Kaye explained that she is already doubting herself when it comes to routines like the tango.

“But I would not be able to transport myself to an Argentinian bordello to do the tango. I’m going to need a sequinned balaclava!" she revealed.

But, ever the optimist, Kaye says: “I’ll try my best, but I don’t know how I’m going to do it, these things are pretty hard-wired in by the time you get to my age.”

Kaye went on to say that she's always thought Strictly would be something she "couldn't do" after never having dance lessons as a child.

“I’ve never had it in my head to do Strictly. Not because I don’t like the programme – I love it," she shared.

"I’ve just always seen it as something I couldn’t do.

“I’ve always been the person sitting at the side of the dance floor nursing my drink, looking at other people dancing and thinking it looks wonderful to be able to let go like that and enjoy music. But I can’t do that."

The star admitted: “I never even did dance lessons as a child," before confessing her ballet teacher asked her mother to "keep her away" from the ballet class, calling her "Kipper Feet".

"I’ve never forgotten it. Even at five, I got the vibe that I wasn’t going to be Margot Fonteyn!” she laughed.

Following the news of Kaye joining Strictly, the presenter – who will be joined by Fleur East, Helen Skelton and Will Mellor – said she would love to be partnered with a homosexual professional dancer.

Kaye said she believes a heterosexual man would feel “embarrassed” while dancing with her: "I don’t want a heterosexual. I would feel embarrassed for them," she shared on Loose Women.

"Because for a young, hot heterosexual it will be like he’s dancing with his mum."

“If I got a nice gay guy, he’ll be fine with dancing with his mum!”

Kaye Adams – How to be 60: Live! is at the Edinburgh Fringe this week on 23 and 24 August. Find Tickets at edfringe.com. The How To Be 60 with Kaye Adams podcast is available now.
