Kéllé Bryan announces exit from Hollyoaks as last scenes to air tonight

Kéllé Bryan has confirmed that she is quitting her role as Martine Deveraux on Hollyoaks.

Appearing on Friday's instalment of Loose Women, the 47 year old explained to the panellists Kaye Adams, Jane Moore and Sunetra Sarker that her last scenes would air that evening.

Kéllé, who previously praised the soap's unconscious bias episode, which aired last year, said: "Gosh, this is really weird, this is a secret that I've been keeping for so long, so actually saying it out loud feels really weird.

"So, tonight on Hollyoaks will be my very last scene. So, exclusively for Loose Women, I'm departing the show after four years of playing the same character, I'm off!"

Letting fans of the show know what to expect in her final scenes, Kéllé continued: "So tonight the Hollyoaks fans will be able to see what happens to Martine and all the dynamics between myself and Richard Blackwood, who plays my husband."

A teaser of her character Martine in action was played, and mother of two Kéllé welled IP with emotion, admitting: "That's made me a little bit upset."

She also explained that she found it hard to "switch off" from her character, noting: "Martine's been a part of my life for so long, I'm going to have to de-rig her now – this hairstyle is Martine.

"I used to put a little piece of velcro in my bra because she had breast cancer. I used to carry a bit in there just to have that sense of discomfort.

"So taking that out, changing the hair… she's been part of me for such a long time, it's going to be odd putting her down."

Kéllé has starred in Hollyoaks for four years.

Back in March, the talented star revealed she removed all of her work with girl group Eternal from her CV to be taken more seriously when she transitioned into acting.

She moved from singing to acting after leaving the band – which also consisted of sisters Easther, Vernie Bennett, and Louise Redknapp – in 1998.

Speaking to OK!, she said: "Not a lot of people know I was an actor before I was a singer. I'd done that before I was in Eternal, but that didn't matter because the band obliterated everything I'd ever done.

"I'd walk into a room, and I'd only ever be Kéllé from Eternal," she continued. "I took all the Eternal stuff off my CV and hoped that people wouldn't recognise me."

Since leaving Eternal, Kéllé has also starred in four stage productions of Cinderella, playing the titular character each time.
