Kelly Clarkson performed a powerful cover of Alanis Morissette‘s “Ironic” during the “Kellyoke” segment of a recent episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show.”
“It’s like rain on your wedding day / It’s a free ride when you’ve already paid / It’s the good advice that you just didn’t take / And who would’ve thought… it figures,” Clarkson sang.
“Ironic” was the third single from Morissette’s third studio album, Jagged Little Pill (1995). It was written by Morissette and Glen Ballard. The song peaked to No. 4 and became her highest-charting single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. “Ironic” was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America.
The pop-rock album, which was nominated for nine Grammys, went on to win the Grammy for Album of the Year in 1996, plus four other Grammys.
In early June, Clarkson released the Kellyoke EP, a six-song project featuring based on the popular cover-song segment from The Kelly Clarkson Show.
The EP features her renditions of Billie Eilish‘s “Happier Than Ever,” Linda Ronstadt‘s “Blue Bayou,” The Weeknd‘s “Call Out My Name,” Whitney Houston‘s “Queen of the Night,” “Trampoline” by SHAED and “Fake Plastic Trees” by Radiohead.
